yw, I'm going to watch it cause I want to see Tom Cruise interact with people who can actually act, unlike him, and cause Koyuki is cute Bleah *can't wait to see TC being plastered against the wall by the acting abilities of the japanese cast* muahaha

What I can say already is, that the soundtrack is good, but well, Hans Zimmer is a guarantee for good tracks.

Man, you guys are pretty tough on a movie that hasn't hit the theaters yet... I don't think any of the trailers claim the that film is historically correct or anything like that, so I'm not going to pass judgment until I see it...

Yeah, it's a Hollywood movie, so it's meant as an entertainment, not a documentary on Japanese history... If you go into the theater with a ngeative attitude, more than likely you'll hate the movie, so why bother?

well, history is history... and if some dumb movie, for example U-571, tries to tell me that the Enigma was found by some US u-boat (which is absolutely wrong and can't be defended with any argument of artistic freedom, it's just shit, nothing else) well... of course I'm going nuts... it's just cheap american propaganda... the sad thing is, that there are enough people who actually believe it. Sure there's a certain artistic freedom, but there are limits, there have to be limits... I don't think I'll hate the movie, as long as the japanese cast is brilliant I'll most likely like it anyway. Cruise? I can ignore him quite well.

But a historic movie with an actual historic background MUST stick to it, otherwise it should be titled as fantasy movie with all names changed etc...

I gotcha. I'll have to see the movie before I judge it though (there's a first Wink )... If it's enjoyable, I'm willing to overlook most things...

I agree with you. A movie is a freedom of expression, it could be based on historical event, although it might not be 100% accurate. Mr Green

[quote="Pemu"]Koyuki being Tom's servant/mistress, hehe. I'm quite sure of it. Check out the trailer.
Tom will make out with Koyuki, 100% sure! He's always done in every movie he has acted! Tom, cool off with the sex pace hehe
Tom is the "Last Samurai", what does it refer to? First and last foreigner samurai or last samurai that exists in Japan? hehe!

yeah. what i think is. there will be some totally meaningless sex scenes depicting the so called exotic asian beauty.

i'd still watch it for fun Big Grin

Well, I just don't like the current trend in movies of messing up historical facts... I miss things like A Bridge Too Far, Patton, Gettysburg, Glory, Battle at the Buldge, Tora! Tora! Tora!, etc etc... it worked then, why not today? It all started with Titanic... *bahs*

*is looking forward to the japanese cast in it*

*replaces TC with Ewan McGregor*

perfect...

very true. hopefully the movie is not too bad, and has at least some sort of a storyline. I seriously suspect it will be another one of those caucasian opening his eyes to the asian thing and learn about honor and love for different things other than his own blah blah..... sex.... blah blah.... i did not understand you... i offended you...blah blah.. i learn from you... you learn from me.. blah blah.... FIGHT!.........mutual respect....

although the thought of mowing down samurais with guns and cannons might be true, doesn't make much of a movie eh?

Yeah, the title kinda threw it off, "The Last Gaijin Samurai" would be more appropriate. This is a definite work of fiction, I think Japanese History was captured in some parts of that story but I don't know about an American Civil War Hero going to Japan at that time. I believe FRANCE was more involved at that time rather than America. I'm still waiting for it to come out.
yeap, it was more of france, and later, germany. America wasn't involved in the training of the bakumatsu forces during the bakumatsu period. And it's not the IMPERIAL forces, just to be more specific, assuming that the whole story is taken from the satsuma rebellion...

That was a REALLY bad movie.... If I recall, most of the cast and crew who worked on it got some form of cancer decades later because they filmed the movie near a site where nuclear testing was being done... Awful. Sad

I just saw the film and was impressed! Although she is in more of a supporting role, her presence is important to remind the viewers of the internal struggles the main character faces. Koyuki is a stunning actress, and I hope she will continue to pursue more roles in US films in the future.
I don't want to give away too much in fear of spoiling it for people, so anyone with specific questions may contact me if they wish
