On Friday, about to call things a day (4:30) and then a client calls telling me that she forgot to tell me that the printers needed a 3x8 ad and they need it by 5:00. The project would of taken me an hour but she said...unfortunately, you don't have an hour...you have about 15-20 minutes. [frustrated!]
But fortunately, earlier on I made a half assed full page mock up and I sized things down and it went to the printers. I sent her the ad and then she says..."Oh, I need you to change this and that...", I tell her...but you gave me 15 minutes. She said...change these few things and resend it...it's 5:30 by now. Grrr...

A few weeks ago, my friends and I were about to celebrate a friend's birthday, my client calls on the weekend saying...Here's a project I need done by Sunday afternoon. It's an 100-page catalog. I completed it but by the time I was done... it was too late to have fun with friends. My weekend was just working on this catalog. I literally was working on the project hours straight...hardly getting up to do anything else.
Geez...I really dislike projects being sprung up last minute....especially when I have things planned.

True that. But the job market bites unfortunately.

Well, hang in there. I went into self-employment and started my own small communications firm, it's what I wanted to do for a long time and if I didn't do it while I'm somewhat still young, I would of been p.o.'d at myself. But having your own business, you have your good months and your bad months and I miss that stable paycheck but at the same time, there are positives for me being self-employed.
A lot of my friends are working survival jobs and unfortunately, and this includes myself, having a high paying job before and the debt incurred from the lifestyle lived, many of us are trying to pay off that debt. During the dot.com boom, so many friends lived well, bought nice cars and nice homes and to see them losing it during the dot.bomb is sad.
Some friends are temping but some are really hard-headed that they want the same pay they got before or higher and not willing to take jobs that pay lower.
But hopefuly the state economy will pick up..but for California...doesn't look like it's anytime soon.

Are you based there in Singapore or does Singapore even have a military?

Singapore has a military alright... a conscript one...
All males are liable to do 2.5 years once they are over 18 years of age. The only way you can defer is if you are in Singapore and go into Polytechnic, in which case you serve at 21 years....
I was living in the UK before... had to withdraw from my university just to come back and serve the military... >_<
Oh well.. on the bright side my 1 year countdown starts tomorrow!!!!! _________________

Hi DragonSpirit164,
Whoah! So, it's similar to South Korea. Do a lot of Singapore stars or musicians get breaks of serving in the military? I wonder for Singapore guys, if the media or school system tries to ease the fear or tension when you are younger and show how honorable (or how great) it is to serve for your country.
Do you get a choice of which military branch you can join. Like in the US, we have Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force, National Guard?
since you are happy about your 1-year countdown, is this a feeling by many young people or do most of them stay in the Singapore military. Since it's mandatory...does it pay well?

Hmmm I don't know about schools here easing the tension because i have been living in the UK as a citizen for 6 years prior to my enlistment..
About stars and musicians, they will have to serve military service in one way or another... they may not go through the usual soldier life like the rest, but they will be part of the military band or something I guess...
We do not get a choice of our branch, as all males will be trained infantry soldiers. Only after will you get posted to either a staff (like me), instructional or command appointment (of which you have no choice as well). You do get the choice however, if you sign on and make military life your career...
As for the general stance towards NS, I would say that most of us are pretty proud to be serving our country, but 2.5 years really is too long I feel. Most of my friends are already in 3rd year University, whereas I've sorta come to a stop... kind of like just sitting here waiting for Feb 2005 to come... _________________
