Well� I first started with Anime then Tokusatsu and finally I progressed into dorama when I got older. It was my Nisei friends who got me interested further into the culture to begin with, and watching Japanese dorama rekindled my interest fast. I like Japanese dorama because it�s short and to the point. It doesn�t veer by adding more episodes because of ratings.

This New Year when I went back to my homeland somewhere else in Latin America to visit, I saw a Korean drama dubbed into Spanish, so I considered watching it when I came back to the U. S. But then I remembered that I know no Korean whatsoever and that none of my friends is Korean or acquainted with the culture, so I quickly lost interest� Besides, whenever I turn on to the MBS (Korean) segment on my local UHF channel, it�s always some historical drama of some sort or another.

And aside from that, I�m not interested in learning Korean nor Chinese. I have enough with three languages as it is!

The women� well, the first one I saw was Honami Suzuki who was in her last hurrah but still a looker, yet more than anything, TALENTED.

That's another reason I don't like Kdramas..the girl's voices are really annoying..I can't take it.

Hmmm why do I like Japanese dramas over the other ones? Good question. Personally I haven't seen too many K-dramas but I did watch HK dramas as a kid But I just feel jdramas are so much more interesting. The storylines are really good and I like music during my shows. Oh and they also don't drag on for 70 eps -_-

MON & TUE. channel 44 @ 9:45- 10:25 pm... or sat. & SUN... channel 44... at 10:20 pm watch it.. u'll love it

as for the kdrama made for women, that is kinda like a wrong thing to say, i have friends who're 'manly' guys who watch them too, even my bf.. its just that kdramas are too emotional, it either has someone had to die or in a love triangle and that pisses me off too.

unlike jdramas, someone was right saying they were light hearted, and its kinda hard to describe and its nice to watch them better compared to american shows, specially reality tv, argh dont even start there.

as for the poll, i like those people and all but where is my joe odagiri?? anyway my opinions are open cuz i watch japanese, chinese, korean, filipino, hk and taiwanese movies as well

While watching JDoramas i'm gaining a lot of experience on how some nihonggo phrases are used, and it helps me a lot in me self study on nihonggo.

OUTSTANDING!...i agree 87% me and ur BF should hang out sometime... we coulda all like spend our night watching k-dramas in our jammies... in one big group and then bake cookies and sit around saying which J-ENT! guys we like better... and then practice kissing on eachother... cuz that's what friends are for...

I watch dramas from Korea, Japan, HK, Taiwan and one or two from mainland China.

For me, J-drama is like reading a good book, there's always something to think about, ponder over. I like that.

K-dramas - most are melodrama so I'll usually pick a few to watch. They can be really addictive and the good ones usually grabbed my attention in the first episode. But, most lose steam during the latter half of the episodes and the story start to drag.
I like the cinematography in it though (referring to the 'season' dramas Autumn's tale, Winter Sonata, Summer Scent and upcoming Spring Waltz). Plus they are good at romantic comedies (Patzzi Love, Attic Cat, Sweet 18).

J-dramas do lots of comedies too but somehow, they don't make me laugh out loud. Perhaps, it's a different kind of humor. To each it's own.

at first I watch jdorama bcos of kaneshiro takeshi but now I just love jdorama... I can watch about anything that is jdorama

Our local TV stations are still into Taiwan and HK dramas, and recently it's Korean dramas. I watched some, but I still love J-doramas the most. Why?

HK dramas are fast-paced, but they don't make me want to watch them again and again. J-doramas are also fast-paced, but they have something extra to make me want to rewatch it.

Both Taiwan and Korean dramas have the same formula which is to be melodramatic. Watching one seems good, two is OK, but after watching another, you'll get the feeling that the melodrama parts are ALWAYS overly done. Plus, Taiwan and Korean dramas tend to drag one issue in a span of 20-30 episodes while J-doramas (the trendy ones) can resolve an issue or more, tightly and neatly, in just about 10-12 episodes.

Korean dramas seem to suffer from lack of originality, similar storylines and recycled themes, while J-doramas are much more original, some can be even weird, and not afraid to offer dark themes by putting a deaf, mute or blind person, someone on a wheelchair, gangsters or murderers as the main characters.

That's why I love J-doramas!

i dissagree 50% ...lol.. true that jdorama are good.. but i have seen one too manny illness story lines.. and about k-dramas... well just like jdrams there are bad ones with recycled themes, but most of the better ones are very original... try giving the best korean series of any given year a try.. i think u'll be pleseantly surprised how good some of them can be...

I enjoy both K-Dramas and J-Dramas. The stories are usually very interesting and the guys are good looking!

for me, it was because i was learning japanese language at the time. (i still am). watching the japanese dramas helped give me an idea of what conversational japanese sounded like and others nuances that existed in the language that wouldnt normally be taught in a class. that and the chics are hot ....but dont get me wrong...i watch k dramas as well..

I love Jdramas! But do watch HK, Taiwan and very little Kdramas. HK dramas were nice too... which make me wan to keep continue watching.. but would not want to repeat the show again. Taiwan show were ok... only very little good ones... some of the shows were too exaggerated... No offence.. and for kdramas, they were far too melancholic... and dramatic.. which were not really for me...
Jdramas are different... after finishing watching, u would find that you have learn something new.. love, friendship, kinship... Jdramas would always make me think more deeply into the show and understand the meaning behind it... as far as those i've watch.. hehehe..

Anyway, I voted for Kinki Kids (esp. Tsuyoshi Domoto). I love Kyoko Fukada too!!

Good looking/cute/handsome/sexy/pretty/etc. are not factors when I choose or enjoy any form of entertainment. I prefer to see characters that represent the same kind of look on people I'd see walking around downtown Honolulu. I do watch visual entertainment with nice looking people in them, but that's sheer coincidence. Just imagine someone with the looks of an asian Lyle Lovett, Dustin Hoffman or Woody Allen trying to make it in the asian entertainment business. I don't think the majority of people on JDorama.com would give these artists the time of day unless a dozen other people recommended their works.

Young people today are just too visual oriented... Someone had to say it, might as well be me!!!!

Hong Kong serials can be quite good if you choose the right show with a good plot. Sorry to say that taiwanese and korean serials have one of the worst plots compared to the japanese and hong kong ones. The taiwanese and korean serials have ridiculous plots and horrible endings. So thats why I usually boycott taiwanese and korean shows.
