| Novelist Franz Kafka (Suzuki Hiroki), one of the major figures of 20th-century literature known for the story The Metamorphosis, is living in an apartment in present day Tokyo for some reason. He works part-time at a bread shop since he is unable to support himself with his works. Kafka gets genuinely hurt, overwhelmed and eventually seized by despair over all sorts of incidents that occur daily such as the need for approval on social media, the hunt for a spouse or the cat boom. However, the more he spirals into depression, the more the people seeing this feel inspired by his honesty. |
