Synopsis

Yamashita Tomohisa plays Kurosaki, a young man whose family was destroyed by swindlers. Despite that, Kurosaki grows up to become a con artist known as Kurosagi. As Kurosagi, he swindles other con artists and returns the money to the original victim. He works with the master swindler Katsuragi Toshio (Yamazaki Tsutomu) even though Toshio had a hand in the destruction of Kurosakifs family.
Kurosaki's life begins to change when he meets Yoshikawa Tsurara (Horikita Maki), a young law student who disapproves of his disrespect of the law. Can she persuade Kurosaki to give up swindling and his quest for revenge?
Based on the hit manga series by Natsuhara Takeshi with artwork by Kuromaru serialized in Young Sunday magazine.

Great concept, iffy delivery

7 / 10

The world of con games is ripe with dramatic possibilities, and there's no question that KUROSAGI delivers on the ones that count. Each week's plot reveals a new twist on this theme, and the stories are always tense and well-plotted.

That said, the cast seems to be not quite up to the challenge. Or maybe it's because the dialog needs to be sharper, the human situations more detailed. Regardless of the reasons, there's unrealized potential here at every turn.

Disappointing

The first episode was interesting, but it was clearly misleading.
I was thoroughly disappointed by the ending and the plot in general.
Should avoid this drama unless you are a hardcore fan of the lead actor / actress.

SPOILER

Other things that annoyed me includes:
1. The stalker-ish cop. Every time he laughed, I felt like throwing something across the room. (I have nothing against the actor, but the laugh was just creepy).
2. Yukari. Throughout the drama, I thought she was a horrible friend. The scene where she made up with Tsurara at the last 10 minutes of the last episode was unnatural and unrealistic.
3. Tsurara's senpai. What was the point of her character?
4. Katsuragi. How he got to his position of power was never fully explained, and I was annoyed by the fact that he kept spitting out his food.
