They're no Dream Team that's for sure... Puerto Rico isn't even supposed to be a contender for a medal... Looks like the world is catching up to the U.S....

If there was football in the olympics, I think the japanese and chinese would have a hard time competing and Russia would be our #1 contender.... _________________

Back in Sydney 2000, the Americans are saying that they will beat the Australians in swimming like smashing guitar but it was all the other way around.
The best bit was when the Aussie team played air guitar after they won. Hilarious and classic TV I have to say.
That's why you should not be too cocky when it comes to competing.
Too bad the mens relay team did not defended their WR and title for this Olympics , but well done to the South African team that won.
Still would've preferred an encore of the air guitar had they won.
Well the American mem's team is doing about how I expected (at least for a team of second choices thrown together at the last minute) it to. They may not even get a medal, becaause they don't understand the dynamics and strategy needed to win in the Games today. They would be better off not getting the pros to play. Since they don't really defend or rebound anyway, they should recruit all the best 3 point shooters regardless of whether they are in the pros are not. Just DO IT

Hey I was talking about the US team i 2000 being cocky.
Blame it on Garry Hall Jr in 2000. He started the guitar metaphor with the smashing Australia "like guitars" prior to the games starting. They just had to eat humble pie when they lost.

Oh, I was agreeing with ya... The U.S. of all nations seem to be the cockiest... I mean not everybody, but enough to add to the "Ugly American" moniker...
Yeah, I never liked Gary Hall, Jr. for his smugness in 2000 and was glad to see him lose... Same for the 2000 4x100 track team: their total disrespectful show during the awards ceremony was awful... And because of that, I hope Maurice Greene loses in the 100, though unlikely...

Oh okay, glad u agree
I have the same feeling with Phelps cos his young but really arrogant. Just don't like it. Australia have arrogant sport people as well like Leyton Hewitt, but thank god his behaviour improved since his started tennis. I just think that with the Olympics athletes should be aware that they are there not to compete for themselves only but for their country and that they are representing their country to the world. Bad behaviour is just a disgrace.
Psyching your oppenents out by using mind games and bad mouthing is just not on.

I really enjoyed the womens soccer game USA vs. Brazil, and the the Beach Volley Ball. I wish they showed Judo and more of the other soccer games. _________________

I haven't noticed that about Phelps, but I know the media is really hyping the guy...
For me, I root for athletes that I like, regardless of the country they're from...

Yeah, what happened? They didn't even MEDAL this time around. U.S. did, albeit bronze, did medal (I hear our metaphorical guitar playing; maybe ya'll's can't), though, heheh. I know, I know, turn my own words against me -- it's still early in the games. Amen.
And I dunno about what I'm beginning to believe is becoming a controversy in the gymnastics portion, about how one of the judges (I won't say from where, lest I be called . . . well, I won't even say that) is allowed to walk up to the U.S. team and tell them they have to change the routine they rendered at the world championships, otherwise they won't end up getting as high scores as they expected. Admittedly, the gymnastics comp' is still in the qualifying rounds, and there's no way the U.S. will NOT make it into medal contention (will probably be between China, Japan, and the U.S.), and, admittedly, MAYbe the U.S. should be prepared for such change-ups. Still, methinks the judges would HAVE to know enough about what routine they're expecting to see not one hour, not one day, I figure a few weeks before a single athlete enters the arena.
Investigation time . . . was it a matter of how the U.S. SHOULD have been told long ago? Maybe one of the coaches on the U.S. team neglected to find out, but THAT's not being reported, so, I'm not about to put stock into THAT theory. Regardless of country, I don't think the Olympics should be about the judges (don't TELL me it hasn't happened before where competition was suddenly focused on a friggin' judge's screw up).
AND, man . . . if there was a time when U.S. Men's b-ball team had to lose, the first game'd be it . . . I'm figuring all this press and raspberries coming from the press and everyone and his brother going on this team's only has to cut into the ego of these NBA players (and, let's not forget that 8 out of 12 teams have at least one of 'em in the 'lympics) on the U.S. team. Ohhhhhhh, man . . . Greece is up next for them, and they obviously have the homecourt advantage, and if they can wipe the home team on the floor, the arena packed with euphoric Greeks, I think Team USA'll get the confidence that (I think he said it) Iverson said the team lost. In any case, get your heads in the game, gentlemen; I would think the extravagant NBA salaries imply that we can bank on youse guys on the international level. THIS one's gonna be interesting. I'll admit that. And I'll admit that . . . maybe it's a case of where these NBA guys need to change their attitude a bit. They really should just be able to get on that court, no practice and be up by 50 points by halftime.
This all having been said,
USA!USA!USA!
[gotta say, the U.S. women athletes -- the teams in particular -- might end up carrying the U.S. in this 'lympics; Women's b-ball having no prob', and I think they're doing well even in table tennis. And overnight? Women's softball beating Japan in extra innings . . . chicken skin. OK, I'm done, for now. Oh, wait, one more thing, for now, AND JUST FOR NOW, to Australia . . . and Japan while I'm at it . . . they are doing SOME damage so far . . . woah, pretty soon I might have to add oi! oi! to my vocabulary (and, yes, I'm admitting to all this EVEN though U.S. men beat Australia in BEACH VOLLEYBALL, BOO-YAH.]
Puerto Rico just played a collapsing zone D, daring the U.S. to hit from outside and they couldn't... And add 22 turnovers, so a big L for them... But you're right, it's still early, and the time to lose is in the early round... Hopefully this'll be a wake-up call.

Watched the USA vs Puerto Rico basketball game.
What an abyssmal effort by the USA team. They played so little defense, did not hustle down the court to defend the basket. The degeneration of fundamental basketball skill in the NBA since the 1990s was showcased for the world.
It looked like a pro team playing a college team. I'm sure the members of the previous USA's Dream Teams were disgusted.
