besides constant rumors like these, sometimes people dislike him on the spot because of all these hype surrounding him. what I do know is many staunch tk supporters fell for his acting talent first and not his looks. the more one finds out about him, the more one falls for him. he's a refreshing mix of candor and innocence rarely found in this industry.

of course I may be biased, I am a tk fan after all. but I sure am proud to be one. Wink

And not just him, everything about Smap sells!

And also, he's just so brutally honest! Medias just hate his guts, ne. But fans like this about him, one of his traits that makes him even more endearing.

Friends who have been to SMAP concerts said that Kimura is definitely 170 something. This is because, in some encore segments where the boys wore slippers only, Kimura stood slightly lower than Shingo, who's 183! Plus, he stood taller than Nakai-kun, who everybody knows is 165. If Kimura is really 160 something, then how tall is Nakai-kun? 155??? Eh???

Kimura only wears heels when his leading ladies are as tall or taller than him, which I believe MOST actors do so too!

I don't know how tall Kimura is for a fact, but I'll say that Shingo is pretty damn tall! 183 cm is no exaggeration!! I saw what Shingo looks like in person, and he seems so tall! He's about 6'1". He towered over every Japanese around him when I saw him, LOL. I'm not Japanese and I am a female, but 6'1" completely towers over me as well, hehehe.

I never heard anyone refer to Kimura as being specifically tall or short. I would assume that he's average height, maybe 176 cm is accurate (like 5'8" or 5'9"). Seeing him next to Shingo, he never looked to be all that close to Shingo in height to me. Not extremely shorter, but not all that close. I'd still assume Kimura is 4 or more inches shorter than Shingo.

I heard Nakai is around 165-166 cm, I think. I'm 165 cm.

It's no use..I simply have to get on the bandwagon re Takuya Kun. I adore this man. He is such a good actor that there are some people who don't realise just how good he is. I see a different Kimura in every role because he inhabits the character and still has his own star shining through. This is the stamp of a real actor. These are the ones who last and will be remembered.
As for looks...my dear...he is the epitome of masculine man. Sensual for sure. He can move to music very well indeed....He is a great comedian and can obliterate his good looks with outrageous makeup. Think Captain Jack and what about that PinkPoodle... Really he has the confidence to do this and that in itself makes him attractive. He melts my bones anyway.
Now as far as height is concerned...who cares??? but I have my theory about this. This year in Cannes at the film Festival this height rumour surfaced from a Japanese reporter . I have a feeling that this person has an axe to grind for some reason. Maybe she(?) didn't get the interview or was otherwise miffed and started talking about lifts in shoes. You can easily see from any photo that Kimura wears any old shoe that anyone wears. Not lifts..unless, as someone has said, his leading lady is too tall. this is commonly done by all actors. Think Tom Cruise..Al Pacino etc.

The Kimura you will see in 'Pride' is the closest character to his own I would think. He looks more mature and even more sure of himself as his acting level goes up.
Well that's enough.. maybe..

it is known for a fact that kimura takuya acts as kimura takuya. all his acting is the same. pilot, hockey player, musician.. blah blah... kimutaku acts as himself in every character...perhaps sleeping forest was a little better....other than that.. the way he talks, does that thing with his mouth..... i could name more... ahahhahahhaha

people in japan know that for a fact. other than his hairstyle changing...

but.. i do like the dramas that he has been in...

Kimu Taku is my favorite dorama actor and a singer to boot, but he is not the epitome of masculine men.

For Pete's sake, he looks like someone needs to put him on a diet of steak and potatoes, he's so skinny. He'd have trouble carrying a 50 lb sack of rice.

Note that I am not debating his perception as being handsome, etc.

being skinny does not mean that one is weak. and perhaps brad2's idea of masculinity does not equate brute strength. (not to say he can't carry a 50lb sack of rice, i'm sure he's up to the challenge anytime of the day, given his character.)

i disagree with neefo that Kimura Takuya is acting as himself in all the dramas that he's in. Is Katase Ryo in Sora Kara the same as Katagiri Teppei in Love Generation? I don't see a happy, cheeky Takuya in Katase Ryo at all. Yes all his roles have a bit of him in it, that's because he's portraying it. All the characteristics have his inputs in it.

a lot of critics acknowledge his acting skills, it is a fact that he has won several acting awards for his efforts. Pls do not make generalizations that many people do not think that he can act.

one can disagree with his looks because i know that's very subjective, but i hope no one denies him of his talent and efforts.

I would agree with NEEFO that his acting status is overrated compared to some of the other stars. He has been in 15 or 20 dramas, yet we can only site a couple where he did slight variations to his usual performance

Well, have you watched most of his works to qualify you into saying this? The real Kimura-kun can be seen in SMAPxSMAP NG scenes. That's the real him. Compare him to Kuryu (his character in Hero). Kuryu is real and comical, very unlike him. Then try watching his skits in SMAPxSMAP. He's a good comedian. He makes people laugh. Try Sora Kara. He rarely speaks, and acts with his eyes most of the time.

That's why, people like us who appreciates his acting, can actually separate him from his characters. Kimura is Kimura. Kuryu is Kuryu. Ryo is Ryo. Kuryu is different from Ryo like day and night. And don't even get me started on his other characters like the freaky and mysterious Naoki, or the vulnerable Sena, or the impulsive Teppei. As in Good Luck, Shinkai is naive, clumsy and stubborn. The one you see in SxS is worldly, kakkoi and aggressive.

To each his/her own, but this is what I think.

Takuya is definitely not a bad actor, but he's not exactly a breakthrough performer either. I think the problem is that he brings too much of himself into each of his characters. Sure Sena and Naoki and Shinkai and Haru are totally different, and that's how it should be since they're completely different people... However, Takuya likes to add mannerisms and such to each character in order to personalize them and make them his own, but I feel he takes it to an extreme, and by doing so Sena and Naoki and Shinkai and Haru all end up resembling each other...not necessarily in personality, but in the way they talk and carry themselves. I personaly like "chameleon" actors that can truly change their identity with each role. i.e. Tsutsumi Shinichi, Takenouchi Yutaka, Abe Hiroshi... I find it a lot more enjoyable to watch such actors in their different projects. In one drama they can be the evil guy, in the next they can be the weak clumsy guy. In Takuya's case he always ends up being the "cool" guy.

Love this thread. Love kimura. Love SmapxSmap

It is interesting the way Kimura captures people. Is he handsome? Not exactly. He is just charismatic in his persona and he has that tremendous aura. It would be very hard for him to lose his own identity entirely in a role. None of the really great actors who became 'stars' ever hide themselves altogether in the character they play. They have to have something of their inner self invested in the role. I think Kimura does this every time he gets into every part he plays. Up to now he has not been given roles that take him too far away from the romantic role. Not always a happy ending but always a sympathetic core. I wonder and hope to find out what happens in '2046' how ever small his appearance.
There is no doubt that Kimura is down and out earthy and sexy and always very sensual and that is where the strong attractiveness resides.
Those eyes speak volumes,,no dialogue needed. Lovey Eyes

Well, for me, he got me at hello! Lovey Eyes OK, I'm just exaggerating there! But yeah, he got me through his ACTING. Wakamono no Subete is the first Kimura dorama I watched. His Takeshi in Wakamono is the turning point. I've seen him sing with SMAP before that, and I've realized that he's cute, but that was it. I thought he was just another cute face.

Then I saw Wakamono, and in there, Takeshi is such a sad, lonely soul. His eyes reveal his inner turmoil so shamelessly that my heart just went out to him! And no, it's not his looks that attracted me to Kimura's Takeshi. In fact, because Shinji Takeda is also in Wakamono, I honestly thought that Shinji is hotter than him, at that time! But Takeshi is so mesmerizing, he just got me. And so did Kimura-kun!

One more time....

I just watched an old SmapxSmap from 1996. One of the longer skits was a take off of the detective series when Tamura Masakazu was the lead actor playing the detective. I forget the title...sorry. Anyway the skit had Kimura playing the detective and the rest of Smap playing the other roles required. I was totally taken in by Kimura. He played Masakazu down to the last eyebrow lift..... He was a brilliant mimic, and even now I am wondering in the back of my mind...?was that Kimura?? was it Masakazu?? No it was Kimura all right. Amazing..really.
It's there to find in ..'in heavy syrup' site.

Wong Kar Wei stated that Kimura should not just be a well known Japanese actor..he should be an Internatiionally known actor. I titally agree.

Man! Wong Kar Wai is the hardest, most particular, most detailed, and the harshest director in probably, the entire planet!

If that comment comes from WKW, man! That's awesome! Makes me wanna watch 2046 even more!
