Yeah what's crackin' with Ryoko Hirosue now? She must be working on some other projects...I thought I read that she was going to be acting in one of those NHK Taiga dramas...
Very important for several reasons... Ryoko speaks some english in it, which only makes her even more loveable to us all, as it's very endearing. Also, she is slightly heavier than normal in this.
Again, subtle differences in title... so I guess it's easy to get them confused. And with the greatest amount of respect to you Dragon, you're a big enough fan of our beloved RH that you should have known the difference _________________

Wow, that article was very critical of Ryoko Hirosue and clearly highlighted the apparent displeasure of various entities within the Japanese entertainment industry re: her past behavior.
The hypocrisy of such a culture is quite amazing given some of the social indiscretions (sexual or otherwise) that are commonplace in Japan, especially in the case of Japanese men. This cultivated image of Japanese womanhood still appears to hold sway in the popular media despite the realities of of a changing society. It would truly be unfortunate if Ryoko is "blackballed" from future acting projects because of matters from her personal life. Com'on she ain't OJ Simpson.

I am a Ryoko and Nanako fan but I can't blame the people and agencies for "blackballing" Ryoko. Nanako Matsushima is literally a class act. She has great dramas, married a great guy in Sorimachi and she also waited to get married. It wasn't like she married at 20 or anything but did so at an age which is accepted for an actress and wouldn't affect her career. It certainly helps though that her and Sorimachi are accepted as a couple. Ryoko on the other hand literally went behind her fans back by getting pregnant and then getting married. She never allowed time for herself to get accepted by the fans. You wonder why stars such as Ayumi Hamsaki don't get married, and that's because they care about their careers so much. Ryoko's scandal just shows to me how much she cares about acting and that isn't much. Sorry to be so critical on Ryoko; I love her too, but I don't like people who have talent and are not committed.

Your argument is well taken. Not to disparage your point or anything but you mentioned some issues which get at the heart of the "hypocritical" double standard I mentioned. There's this stylized standard and/or certain social conventions that these entertainers are being held to that are to be honest, quite trite, even hackneyed if you will. Do you think this backlash that Ryoko Hirosue faces would be an issue for a man? I doubt it. Everybody is going to make certain mistakes in life. But deciding to marry young because of an expected pregnancy shouldn't cost you your acting career... that's utterly ridiculous. This is probably one of the idiosyncrisies of Japanese societies. Granted I may not be in tune with the Japanese perspective, but as a former student of Japanese society and politics I don't feel myself to be completely out of touch. In any case the popular press and populace at large are a fickle lot in any country. As with many things in life, "fame is fleeting."
Moreover, given that NHK is a state-funded broadcast television station I'm sure the ppl there are more discriminating about presenting a "proper image" to the Japanese viewing public.
By any account this well definitely be a test of R. Hirosue's "mettle."
It was great reading your opinion though because I'm sure it is representative of many others.

You're absolutely correct, this wouldn't happen with men. I think this is something for all women in acting in any country. There is a far quicker string to pull with them than there is with a male. It's just society and the way things go. It's unfair, but ultimately the audience is what makes it this way. I do hope that Ryoko is able to bounce back but she really did dig herself a hole with this incident.
