Man, after skimming through ( thread is too big for me to read the -whole- thing without keeling over X.x;;; ) I realize I came in all late with J-Dramas. Ah... The first J-Drama that got me hooked was... Stairway to Heaven. Unfortunately I caught on in it's last episodes... But damn, it got me hooked! I so wanted Akiko and Keiichi(sp?) to reunite... And the guy that played Keiichi's son.... HOT! Gah... Wonder what his irl name was...

Oshin, my first j-dorama, is now aired in Metro TV (local TV station in Indonesia). I believe it gets good rating. Lot of people love little oshin.
Oshin firstly was aired by National TV (TVRI) in late 80's, and Ayako Kobayashi was very famous in Indonesia and invited to come to Indonesia at that time b'coz of this dorama.

Pretty much the same thing with me. After seeing a movie called Azumi I totally fell in love with the leading actress, Aya Ueto. So I started looking for dramas she had made and Ace wo nerae was the first I found. I did't finish it though becouse I heard there was an english subbed version coming out soon and my version only had chinese subs.
Meanwhile I started watching Koukou Kyoushi 2003 which had subs. I wanted to see it just to get to see some more of Aya, so I was really surprised to find out that the show was exellent. It totally got me hooked on japanese dramas. Now I can't wait to get to see more dramas.
The first dorama I even saw was Sutaa no Koi and that was by accident.I never actually saw any doramas before since been into anime/manga all the time.I just happened to stumble upon d-addicts site while doing research finding info on drug addiction on google for an assignment..lol and the series of the month was Sutaa no Koi.I just looked at the picture and thought to myself..hmm...since have free bw will d/l and see what it is and after watching ep1, I d/l all rest of eps and from that point it became part of my life..
Hi All, new here but eager to share. The first J-drama series that got me hooked was Hatachi no Yakusoku back in 1993 starring a very young and cute cast of Inagaki Goro, Makise Riho and my favorite Fukatsu Eri in a love triangle. Yes that long ago.... I also saw the original High School Teacher and Hitotsu yane no shita 1 that year.

i saw it back in 1991. "tokyo elevator girl" starring rie miyazawa. great drama. her career was skyrocketing at the time and she was making millions. she still one of my favorite actresses with a sincere ability to act. her relatively recent Japanese Academy Award for best female actress for her performance in "Tasogare Seibei" substantiates the fact, and she's superbly pretty with a lovely voice to boot. she's actually half dutch.
