For Jdoramas- I recently watched some really excellent shows:
- Ningen no Shoumei
- Shiroi Kyotou
-Suna no Utsuwa
They are deep dramas that get you to think... EXCELLENT!
I guess I'm in the mood for some hard ass dramas lately.
Although.. I do adore lighter fare fare too...
hmm...let's see now..current Jdrama series I am watching
(not kdrama that would just make the list even longer..lol)
Mayonaka no Ame,Ai tokidoki uso,Meitantei hokenshitsu no obasan,Suna No Utsuwa,Beginner (from the titles you can guess who's fan I am..lol..just got the vcd's delivered yesterday so been watchin each one after the other).

I'm watching Shomuni III, and boy did I need it.
The last two series I watched were Mizuno Miki's "Tail of Happiness" and Kimura's "One million stars fell from the sky". Both good series, but both had depressing endings. I needed a break.
For those who loved Shomuni 1 and 2... 3 is wonderful. I love'em all. It's all style, and attitude and silliness over substance... and it never claims to be anything else.
As for "One Million Stars Fell from the Sky". It's the story of a tired policeman, a sociopath, a few murders, some family tragedy, and a sad sad ending.
It took me to about episode 4 to really get hooked on this one, but once I was there, I couldn't stop watching. (And by the way, Shibasaki Kou was astonding in this one. I haven't enjoyed watching her this much since Battle Royal) _________________

I'm now watching Merry Christmas in Summer. Can't say this is one of my favorites. I'm now at Episode 6 and so far, it's been draaaging ... The plot's ok but somehow, I'm having a difficult time getting "into" the story. Not sure that I really understand what's going on.
On another note, finished watching Kimi Wa Petto a short while ago and sorry to be redundant (because I posted similar comments elsewhere) but am I the only one here that thought "Kimi Wa Petto" was the most ridiculous program? I respect other people's opinions so I have no qualms about the fact that some people liked the show but based on the comments I've read here, I'm really surprised that so many people thought this Jdorama was worth watching.
Personally, I still can't get over the initial premise that a woman would drag a large box with some guy in it (let alone someone who's pretty badly injured) into her upstairs condo, treat him, and then suggest that he can stay as long as he agrees to be her pet. C'mon, how ludicrous is that?
Ok to be fair, what am I missing? Is there something about this program others see that I don't? Is the show just a light-hearted tale and I'm being too critical? Maybe it's just a silly program that I'm suppose to just accept for what it is? Could somebody tell me why they liked it so much - beyond liking the actor/actress?
I really liked Hero, Love Generation, Forbidden Love, Beautiful Live, Summer Snow, etc. They all appealed to me in some way but these last two (Kimi Wa Petto and Merry Christmas in Summer) just seem totally unfathomable. I'd like to hear other people's reasons for why they liked either or both of these programs.

Finally, i ventured into other doramas that does not star Kimura Takuya...
Recently saw Itsumo Futaride and Be Nice To People.
I liked Itsumo though the love story dragged for a bit. Kenji was cute in the series - well gorgeous actually. Hehe.. It was great to see Matsu Takako in another series with someone else. Hehe..
That Akira boy character in Be Nice made me cry buckets!!!! First time I saw Shingo act and well passable but the director could have tempered his screaming delivery of his lines.
I am trying my darndest best to watch Food Fight but could not make myself go beyond episode 2....

KTSF showed Food Fight with English subs here in the S.F. Bay Area, and I remember watching the first 4 or maybe 5 episodes. (When you only get one drama per week, you take what they give you.)
And then it just stopped!
I don't know if they changed the time slot and didn't tell me. Or if (and I've always thought this more likely) they just got such a poor response to the show that they stopped broadcasting it.
Anyway... I've seen it offered for sale and for trade dozens of times since then, and I've never been tempted to go out and get it to see how it ended.
Dumb dumb show.

I'm watching "Last Christmas" right now... and I know I'm missing a lot of what's going on. (For example; I have no idea what's going on with Nana Katase's character.)
But I'm sticking with it because I became a huge Oda Yuji fan after watching "Odoru daisousassen". (Rhythm and Police)
But this is one I'm gonna have to see with subtitles before I'll give it a good or bad review. _________________

Finished Kao starring Joe Odagiri and Nakama Yukie and To the one I love starring Naohito Fujiki. Kao is nice and I watched it twice. The other is so-so and I would not recommend it unless you are a die-hard romantic freak.
Say hello to blackjack was watchable because of Satoshi Tsumabuki. The plot say 5 out of 10.
