Hands down, LONG VACATION is the best Love Generation is good too, but it's far far behind Long Vacation. His other doramas were just...ok. Hero was kind of boring, and all the home-tv shopping stuff was kind of annoying. Beautiful Life was very good, but it doesn't leave one with a good feeling afterward does it? Pride and Good Luck were entertaining, but it seems Kimura is typecast all the time as the center-of-the-world hero. Hehehe.
He's a great actor, but he needs a wider variety of projects and roles.

Kimura Takuya is a fantastic actor. I've yet to see give anything less than a decently good performance - something that is rare for any actor or actress.
In my opinion, he isn't extraordinarily good looking, in fact he isnt even conventionally goodlooking, lots of other Japanese celebrities are better looking than he is. As a singer, his voice is so-so too. He's cute and charming though, and very charismatic. A real spellbinder. He draws the audience to him like I haven't seen anyone else can. The previous poster was right, that is the reason why he's so popular.
He's being horribly typecast now though. Always the "hero." I suppose because those are the kinds of characters his fans want to see him in Given the depth of his talent though, I think he needs more variety in the projects he takes and the roles he plays. Right now, I don't think he's living up to his great potential.

Good looking or not is rather subjective view. However, I think it is fair to said that KIMURA is good looking enough for him to be popular. Honestly, right now, he is kind like light weight of Tom Courise ( not quite as good), regardless of the roles he is in, you can still see Top Gun in each everyone of them.
What Kimura does is that, he has a great screen presence, when he is on the set, it is hard not to notice him, plus one of the most electrified smile that you will ever see.
Now, I can see what do you mean by type case as a "hero", I have a little different point of view. Yes, most of time he is "Hero", but not all of time.
"Good Luck" by no meaning SHINKAI is the best pilot. He is not even the best co-pilot, He is a interesting character, but he make many mistakes, often does something stupid and get his ass chow up. Of course, the plot line is around him, but that is way Japan Drama, I am not sure anyone can changed that. Unlike TSUTSUMI SHINICHI or some older actor, good looking never the less, but with more polish acting skills that could be invisible when needed. Kimura is still show up on the screen, he likes or not. He might be able to do one day, might not, who knows.

Kimura is hot as icebaby has said. I tried to figure out what I like about him because I am so addicted to his work.
I agree that he is not the most good-looking. Watching doramas lately with leads other than Kimura-kun, I find other Japanese actors also good-looking like Kenji Sakaguchi, Naohito Fujiki and Hideaki Takizawa. Not offending fans of these artists mentioned, I still feel that Kimura has more screen presence. He jumps out of the screen to make you sit up and notice.
Being a new fan I was able to watch his work - 10 series - one after the add in a sort of time warp and Kimura-kun has not changed his charisma over the past 10 years. His images change over time and I think that capability to re-invent himself is also another factor why he is still popular.
I agree that his full potential has not been tapped. If his doramas rate that high in the past, I wonder how a series that really shows super fantastic acting from Kimura-kun will blow our minds away.

Hi! im new in this forum, but actually have been reading it for a long time. i myself is a die heart fan of kimura-kun. true his not the most good looking japanese actor, but that really doesn't matter. the most important is his acting skills. i think he is a superb actor... for the past 5 years i've been watching his dramas n until today i dun think there're any other japanese actor as good as him. he is really into his character... i just adore this guy soo much. he has soo much attitude, not only in his acting... nut also in his singing, dance etc.
really looking forward to watch kimura-kun new drama. another great drama to be...
koyuki! That's something to look forward to ^^ They were kind of cute together in Beautiful Life, even if she was the "other woman" type character there.

I find Koyuki versatile. I was telling my friend last month that I wish Kimura-kun and Koyuki would star together in a drama. Its a wish come true for me to hear about it the other day. Already looking forward to watching the drama even without sub-titles!

I feel Kimura Takuya always brings whatever character he potrays to life. Besides, he does not have to look good in the show but it attracts people to watch him. Probably his charisma.....
