Well, work, as annoying as it can be, means money, money means more Japan-import-DVDs and another trip to Japan, another tip to Japan means... paradise w00t!

i guess if you have a chinese that married to a JPese, or if you are like newbie lam-san who is half JPN and CHNese, then i guess that this can be topical. Reading this thread and just getting the feed back from the peeps here, to say the least, makes very interest reading. here is my take i guess:

I grew up in a VERY pro-chinese family, prolly much like elt, bmw, and maybe a bunch of youse out there as well. Everytime the topic JPN was brought up, it was preceeded with the adjective, "Those g0d-dam...", or "say-yun law-baat tau" (cantonese for daikon head, because that was the CHN perception of the JPN at the time). Never bought any JPN cars (until about a couple of yrs back). Not that these actions weren't warranted, my grandmother still has her pinky missing from a JPN soldier after an interrogation. she didn't want to give up the location of my mom (who was prolly about 6 or 8 at the time) who was hiding in a closet downstairs. My dad saw all that stuff happening to HK at that time (which fell to the JPN forces) so i can see where they are coming from. So here i am, already with a dislike for JPNese all the way until i met my wife when i was stationed in Okinawa as a U.S. Marine.

I learned that life in Okinawa at that time was no picnic either. My wife's Grand-dad was drafted in the JPN imperial navy....at gun point, leaving behind a pregnant young wife (who is going to be my wife's father) after about a yr of marriage. After sometimes at see, his ship was sunk somewhere and never returned. After the war, the US carved out some territories in JPN for military occupancy in some treaty that would allow XXX amount of land. Lawmakers in Japan, at that time only recently had taken over Okinawa (wich, as late as the 1800's, was it's own country and did NOT belong to JPN, but more about that later), had given 95% of that alloted space to be built in okinawa, whom the elder people in okinawa these days, still hold more of a grude to tokyo people than to the US people. It doesn't help that okinawa had (and still do) consistently one of the highest unemployment rate in all of JPN, and usually the poorest, as in income per capita. Stories of her had, growing up, eating just a small onigiri and miso soup for 3 meals, rivals some of my parents' days after the war.

So, as you can see, there are some people who can relate to both sides of the same coin. sorry for ranting...

i think some people may have misunderstood what i was trying to say.

what i meant to say was that the past is the past, it should stay there. it does not mean to forget history, just meant to say that everyone (regular citizens) needs to move on.

yes, of course, the japanese govt should get the history books right. since there was so much violence and warfare, those should be stated clearly and with examples. yes, it is the japanese govt who should apologize for what they did to china.

the little acts of violence by the chinese does not help to solve the political issues. beat up a normal japanese person who is not related to the situation in any way and is not related to the govt, what is the use? beat the japanese person up and then what? what does that solve?

-------

this was off topic, this was in the "marriage" thread. this is related to the topic of "marriage". i'm chinese and based on my dating experience, some chinese people make me feel ashamed to be chinese. because they are always on my case of being "chinese". heck, i don't even know how people can tell me that i am not very "chinese" when i know more than they do, in terms of the spoken & written language, culture, and religion. chinese people make me feel ashamed because they pick on me so d-mn much all the time. see these so-called "real chinese or authentic chinese" always pick on other chinese people. i think that is the worse to do to your own kind. it is no excuse for violence of any kind, especially to your own kind. and besides, violence in general to anyone is a disgrace. we are in the 21st century, should be able to solve problems without using violence and negative disgusting means.

yes, like atata said, it is because we were discussing about our disappointment in chinese guys and it just led to talking about china vs. japan.

people can get mad all you want and name calling whatever you want, who cares! we have the right to state what we feel. don't drag everyone who did not have any past experiences linked to china and japan in WWII. that is not fair. people cannot hate others, if others did not do anything to them.

For all the people who say that Japan did only bad things in the past and that it has nothing to do with present time are wrong. It is an issue of now because the Japanese government is not admitting their faults and writing incorrect teachings in history books -> banning correct ones. Each time this happens it is a slap in the face for China, Korea and the Philipenes. I can completely live with the people who feel suffering because of Japanese' Government behaviour. Don't forget that also many Japanese "innocent people" do even now not admit what Japan did during the war. Newer generations have been educated wrongly so they have some sort of a reason. Anyway, I love Japan, but this is just a painfull issue that they should solve out. I think an official apology (letter and visit by prime minister or some other important minister) would largely solve the problems. In many interviews Korean and Chinese women fighting for the issue already stated that they don't care about how much money they'd get, they just want recognition. How can you forgive someone or a country when he/she/it doesn't apologize?

everyone who is looking and visiting this board -- must like Japanese. if you "hate" them so much, then why would you be on this board?

okay, if "hate" them so much, how come so many in chinese in Hong Kong and even in China many want to go visit Japan? how come many of the Hong Kong and China students many go to Japan to go to school?

Woah..easy now. Take a deep breath before posting. With a topic like this, it is easy for things to get heated. So please proceed with discussing the topic, not arguing. You may have differing viewpoints, but please present them in a civilized manner. Same goes for everyone else here. Hug I'd hate to see a good topic go down in flames.

They were not Germans, they were Jews.

To be specific, the Oppenheimer brothers were Jewish, as was Einstein.

The Oppenheimers were born and raised in the USA. Einstein was born in Germany and spent large sections of his life in Germany and Switzerland before moving to the USA in the 1930s.

One thing I noticed, like BMW noticed, even the Chinese here in the USA of the older generations, they still have a serious anti-Japan sentiment.

My exGF's parents, when she told them that she was dating a Japanese guy, her mom immediated gave her crap about what the Japanese did during World War II.

It didn't matter that my family wasn't even in Japan at that time, they were already in the USA since the 1930.
