OC3-155

Which is 155-mbps, a theoretical max of 151MB/s.

If I download more than 7MB/s the computer gets very laggy though. But still Its nice to be able to download a entire drama set all at the same time.

WIth a 7mbps connection you should have no trouble with the speeds that I can get. A 7mbps will allow you a theoretical max of ~6.8MB/s. Fast enough to download a dvd(from a capable server) in 2Minutes Victory! Peace!

I hardly make the difference between bit and bytes in english, because it's the opposite in french.

But the dl speed is supposed to be 600k/s but it's always less than 260...
The upload speed is only 32k/s

And I pay about 45$ each month... for this ***** bad connection. I have disconnections every 15 minutes...

i hope someone will help me, im planning to transfer cable modems bec. im on a budget here.. my sis told me that cable-modems are faster than dsl in their area, and im using dsl right now, can someone explain which one is better and faster?

the reason for that is bec. im paying double for my dsl plus my phone line, but i hardly use my phone bec. i have a cellphone and im thinking of getting rid of my phoneline. and just use it for my highspeed internet..which gave me an idea to get a cable modem. does that make sense?

and if so, what're the good cable service provider? i just hope they have one in riverside area. Sweat

Hmm, I live in NorCal so my phone is SBC (as is you, right?) and cable is by Comcast. As far as I can tell, cable is much faster than DSL. I don't have the numbers right now, but I believe Broadband Reports has charts available by zip code.

However, keep in mind that after the trial/intro period ends, the monthly rate will increase significantly. After starting at $19.99/mo for 6 mos, the rate jumped to $45/mo. But there are no contracts with cable.

Do you pay for your own cable? If you do, then the switch actually be worth it.
I've had the same question myself, since I'm moving right now.
However, the place I'm moving into includes cable. ($40.00 if I were to pay it on my own) For the cable internet connection, the cost is $45.00)
Total of $85.00.
Currently, I'm using DSL service. $26.13 for the phone line and $5.71 for the long distance. For the DSL internet connection, I'm paying $42.35.
Total of $74.19.
Thing is that I use my cell phone and I don't even bother with my land line. I think I'm going to cancel the land line long distance and just stick with DSL. Afterall, the cable in my new place is already included in my rent, there is no reason (other than faster internet) why I should take up more cost than I already am.
I just think that you have to weigh your options and conclude the best solution for yourself. If money is a priority, go with the cheaper way. If not, then go with what connection you think is best for you.

I've had the cable connection before and to be honest, I can't tell much of a difference than the DSL that I'm currently using. All I know is that they're way faster than dial up. And yes, I was on dial up for a long time. Beaten

I've tried. Maybe I wasn't convincing enough. But once qilver couldn't stop praising the new-found goodness, I thought he...em, could be she hehe, would have taken the plunge. At least on a trial basis. They do have specials for signing up.

I wonder if qilver got 'em to think about it?

He could view and post more pics faster than he currently is. That would be a definate plus for him. hehe

...or her. Wink Bleah hehe

Definitely. I couldn't stand having to dial up from the hotel. But I think the broadband connection was free. At least I didn't see a charge even after using it briefly. Bang Head

The only thing I really remember about my broadband connection is that of the problems I told you about.

So my comparison to DSL could be biased, since I had the problem with my cable connection for 2/3s of the time I used it.

I wouldn't mind trying it again if the opportunity ever presented itself.

I hope Mixx finds her solution too.

Yup. In the short term, the new member incentives should keep the costs down. But it may be enough to find a long-term solution.

We still don't know enough of her situation to really suggest anything though.

i appreciate for the answer, yes im paying for them, the whole total with phone line + long distance + dsl = is around $54 + my sprint cellphone = $39 = $93 something + tax Beaten ok sprint is separate but i dont wanna deal with phone+internet related in a huge higher price.. nah mean? Beaten Beaten

even if im on a budget, but having a high-speed internet is my priority hehe i do wanna keep my dsl, but idk which is better, (cable or dsl) its not only my sis who told me to get cable, in fact some of my friends did too.. but they dont live near me and i guess it just depends on their area services.. i dont know which one to keep or stay..

the only thing im worried about is that my cousin who lives near me, he switched from cable to dsl cuz they sucked Sweat i tried calling him but i always get the vmail, ill wait til tomorrow comes, keep the suggestions coming. Mr Green

I think it depends on where you're using the connection.
At my parents' house, I had cable and it sucked. Well it was fast for the time that it was working.....
Moving into Waikiki, I signed up for DSL. I have to say that I haven't noticed much or any difference in the connection speeds. The thing is that I'm in different areas so I can't really compare them.

The main factors I'd say that play are location and providers.
If people who live in your area say that cable sucked and DSL is better, then I'd stay with DSL. But check with whatever cable provider they had first.
It's hard to make recommendations especially if you're in a different area than the other person.
Do your due diligence and research. That's the best way in this case, IMO.
Good luck
