the most shocking K-ending drama for me, is probably the drama that i'm watching right now called What Happened in Bali?

It's definately not ur typical K-drama. everyone has their own flaws, you seem to sympathize with their actions because of the circumstances. there are no real definative good/ bad character.

surprisingly, the main actress sleeps with both the male leads, one rich who can buy her everything, one not so rich who she lived next to.. however, unlike the girl 100% sure she loves the not so rich guy, in this drama she realizes at the end that she was in actuality in love w/ the rich guy (however it's too late cuz the rich guy shoots both the not so rich guy and the girl in bed after they made love and then he commits suicide after realizing that she loved him).

Seriously..that is oh, so pathetique ending.

They should just do a three some.. Naughty So the girl got two guys..oh..no that would be K-porn drama.. Nut

OK, I'm going to be serious now..basically, If I want to watch K-dramas I'm going to make sure that the main theme is not about "LOVE", "LOVE TRIANGLE"..I've got to be sure that there's mafia involves etc..that I'd enjoyed it. Because if someone's dead and got shot that's because of the ruthlesness of the mafia etc..Or the funny one with Jang Na Ra (she can guarantee that no one dies in the drama so far) Or something like "All In", "All about Eve", "Hotelier", "law firm"..things more like business competition family drama stuff not mainly competing over love.

Goodbye My Love
Hotelier
Innocence
Love Letter
Snowman
Propose
Loving You
I'm Still Loving You
My Love Patzzi
Models
Ruler of your own world
Summer Scent
Winter Sonata
Glass Shoe
Mr Duke
Four Sisters
Friends
Romance
Shoot for the stars

Not enough to me. Although probably more than others here. Last year I got to see 30 korean dramas with subtitles on my korean station. Of course that was probably only about 30% of what was shown in korea that year. Been watching korean dramas for 20 years now.

I was ctually recently hired for YesAsia as an independent contractor translator for Kdramas because they were interested in marketing dramas that HAD NOT been bootlegged in other countries and that had been popular within the country itself (I err, can't say any series I'm currently working on because I signed an NDA but given a little time, you'll see the different series that are released).

You said you can't say what dramas you are now help subtitling for YesAsia. But how about the two k-dramas that have been released by them. Did you have a hand in doing Hotelier and the just recently released Rooftop Romance?

I prefer Chinese dramas.
I haven't seen Korean drama but I would rank it above Japanese drama. The characters in Japanese dramas are sooo weird. Too anime-like and over the top for my liking.

I like JDrama's the best. Dancing But I have traveled to Japan and speak some Japanese so I am sort of biased as it is easier for me to understand Japanese Drama's. The Korean Drama's and Chinese drama's that I have seen are good just not as much draw for me personally. Victory! Peace!

he.... i like j-dorama ichiban daisuki! there's korean drama booming in my country, i've tried to watched them but I still cannot enjoy the story, eventhough the korean series that i've watched is Full House! I mean, it seems that EVERYBODY love full house. I found it funny, yet it's (not like some people said) lack of character development. It only focuses to the main chara. Beside, there are too many ups and downs, and the it's true that it a little bit draggy.

There are lots of k-drama in national tv broadcast in my country, and it seems that the topic of the series are mostly about love with lots of tears. Sometimes I feel it's quite unrealistic.

That's why I LOVE j-drama, it's more variative, creative (I mean, how many TV shows telling aboout male synchro swimming group? or about yakuza-heir lady sensei?), and simple (kimi ga kiete kureta koto, autistic girl, very simple, yet meaningful and very touching!). J-dorama also really focus on the main topic of the story, that's why I found out that being only 10-12 episodes makes dorama has clear story line and effective on communicating what the story is about.

On the other hand, It also depends on the title that we watched. It's not like 'all the j-doramas are better than k-dramas'. Perhaps it's just I haven't watched a good k-drama. I also realize that there're j-doramas that doesn't have good quality. But for me, j-dorama is always be my number one!!!!!

^ Well said, minerva. You basically spoke for me. I agree that Full House, despite all its hype, is just average (Bi + SHK = good drama? NO, lol). But I'm not here to bash that drama Big Grin I personally enjoy Jdramas more than Korean ones, and I've seen a lot of both.

I guess to each his own. It's really nice that we're able to watch a variety of shows from different countries, don't you think? I usually don't mind watching Kdramas, but if you put a Kdrama and a Jdrama in front of me, I will definitely choose to watch Jdrama first.

Btw, I'm just curious what's with the talk about Winter Sonata here in this thread, lol. To be honest, that drama is the king (or queen) of all the horrible draggy boring dramas in Korea. It's one of the worst, don't understand why people like it so much. But again, it's just my personal opinion, you don't have to take it too seriously.

been hooked to japanese dramas recently, though i've only watched 7 series (mostly with kimutaku as lead Naughty ).

i agree with minerva and mikomi, j-dramas has more character development than korean dramas where the main plot lies on the love story of the two leads.

usually with k-dramas the obstacle that needs to be overcome is the evil stepmom/ex-girlfriend/ex-boyfriend or something/someone like that...

while j-dramas, on the other hand, focus on overcoming some personal demons or habits. likewise, the development not only affects the two leads but the sub-leads as well. there are more dimensions to the plot, per se.

winter sonata was my first k-drama and sadly (or fortunately?) it didnt give me the thrill to watch another k-drama...another year had passed before i gave myself another chance to watch another k-series. let's just say that i got hooked after that....

if winter sonata was dragging (imho), autumn in my heart aka endless love tops the list for me. (imho again Dancing ) boy, i was bored to death and got stuck after episode 8!

in conclusion, k-drama and j-drama have different appeals...it just depends on the mood and perception of the person viewing it for them to create an opinion on the series.

"Full House" and the recent "My Name Is Kim Sum Soon" are not bad, 16 eps, lighthearted and not draggy IMHO.

Love 'em both.

Fav. J-drama: Antique

Fav. K-drama: Bright Girl Success

They both rock; they can both suck at times depending on the drama too. I don't really compare the two because they're completely different in many ways. I just like them both...that's just my opinion Mr Green .

Well...
I like J-dorama better than K-Deurama(miniserijeu)....
The japanese drama are focus on daily life...not a life in a beautiful way...I mean...the K-deurama is more like South American's Drama...still concern about the rich and the poor....and the obstacles between their loves...
But that's only my selfish opinion....

i used to not have a preference between the two.
However, as I watched more and more kdramas, I noticed that there's really not much variety... Its getting harder and harder to find a good kdrama nowadays coz most of the new ones are kinda like re-hash of old popular series.
