I'm currently in the middle of this, and it's absolutely riveting! Alot of people who appeared aren't listed in the cast listing here though, like Hirosue Ryoko and Mizuno Miki, I suppose cause they just did cameos of sorts.

Two things sort of mildly bug me though. Musashi seems like such a crybaby, and Otsu is the most boring character ever.

My favorite was Nakama Yukie...too bad they killed her off twice.

It appears that the screenwriters made him a lot more sensitive than the one in Yoshikawa's book...

Ouch. Puppy Dog Eyes

You're not the first to say that. Is it because she's a goody-goody? Naive? Single-minded in her dedication to Musashi? All of the above? Sad

LOL, he's so right...

I don't know, I can only say that Otsu, for example, isn't my favorite female character in it. Otsu sometimes annoyed me because she's just too naive throughout her journey. Like when she's resting at the temple and those bandits ambush her and she really seems to think that she'll get away with just playing her flute, duh. Without the Yagyu she'd been toast there.

Personally I like Oshino more, and Koto and Yae.

I don't think Musashi's that much of a crybaby. If you take the historical one, sure he was quite a killer, but he also had his artistic sides.

I see your point. I'm not trying to defend Otsu because Ryoko-chan plays her, but if you've seen the Inagaki Hiroshi trilogy of Miyamoto Musashi and/or read the book, Otsu's character is just as naive and frail... Maybe more so.

Exactly. She's like that, and that can be a tad bit annoying. She has her moments, but overall... I think if I was Musashi I'd shake her a few times to get that naivety out of her.

Maybe gals from that period of time are more naive? But overall i find Otsu quite okay... akemi is the irritating one Bleah But as the story progress, she is actually quite sweet desune~

i'm quite touched during the scene where Musashi meets Yoshino (as recap)... "Beautiful things are scary".... wooo~ Mr Green

If you go by Azumi (1 and 2) or RAN or Samurai Fiction, then there's one thing you should never do... And that's underestimating one of these gals in that period of time. Go by Japanese history and you'll find unorthodox and extremly strong women throughout the history of feudal Japan.

I think they're just hiding behind naivety, luring the men into safety and then... they strike! Shocked Twisted

You can't use those aforementioned movies as a reference for this drama or vice versa... You're gonna have your strong women and your frail ones... Otsu is a frail one, sort of: She had more than enough determination and willpower to chase down Musashi, ne? That must count for something... Sweat

Funny that you should point out Yae/Koto: those two were even more frail than Otsu, IMO. They were stuck to Kojiro's side like gum on someone's shoe...

Indeed.

Though the way I see it Yae/Koto had a bit more grace or elegance than Otsu, who sometimes reminded me of a clumsy owl.

Sorry, Otsu comes on the 5th place of my favorite female characters in Musashi, so, not much love left there for her Nut
