Indeed they used the same scenes over and over again. And what got to me most was when they used half of an episode, or even a whole one as a recap of what happened previous to.
I think a box set of Musashi on DVD will be... quite expensive. Considering that a normal TV series is around 200-250 Euro as box (differnet though, depending on who's in it, which station ran it, etc (Orange Days I saw for 280 as DVD box, one older series with Fukada I've seen for 200)), and those have usually some 10-15 episodes (on usually ~4 DVDs), while Musashi has 49.
That'd be... some 10+ DVDs. You can count that one up.
As example, the Miyamoto Musashi (1984, NHK): Complete Edition DVD-Box 1 (6 DVDs) goes for EUR 324.80 at my import shop (and they're cheap compared to other import shops I know) atm.

My current copy consists of 17 DVDs...

My apologies for slacking off...
Too many projects at one time.
Considering the way my schedule is now BMW, I can only guess at yours. No problem...although I can't come up with any of my own captions . _________________
