I have this problem...I want to process some clips in my Dorama Cds using Windows Movie Maker. My CD has several folders in them and I usually watch the Dorama with my Windows Media Player from the AVSEQ01.dat file (in the MPEGAV folder).
But when I try importing the .dat file into the Movie Maker using the All files option, it says the file is not supported. Now I'm confused. If that's the case, how come my Media Player can play it?
Hope someone can tell me what to do. Do I have to use another software (hopefully it can be freely downloaded)? Thanks in advance.

Use ISOBuster (http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=ISOBuster) to convert the .dat file to a .mpg file, then you can edit the .mpg file...
I did what you said and it worked! Yeay!!!!
But I'm a bit puzzled about some of the extract functions, like it said:
Extract User data (*.tao, *iso, *.wav)
Extract Raw but convert to User data (*.tao, *iso, *.wav)
But when I proceed, it automatically extract the file to .tao, so how do I get it to extract to .wav? This is because I want to extract the RAW file to be used in Windows Movie Maker and Movie Maker does not accept .tao files but it does accept .wav files. Maybe it just do that to bug me
Another Q, how to extract to .avi fomat? I'm trying to do subtitling (.srt files) for my Tiger & Dragon CD and it's also in .dat format (my first attempt at taking apart a video and putting it back together...I'm bit nervous here). I read in this forum that I need to have it in .avi format to make it work, is that right?

I haven't used this program in a while, but can't you just change the extension before the extraction starts? The default might be .tao, but I think you should be able to change it to .wav...
Hmm, I'm at work so I don't have the program installed here... I'll have to check when I get home.

ISOBuster only lets you extract to .mpg if I recall... You'll need another program to convert it to .avi...
If you have a .mpg file you should be able to demultiplex it and have a
separate video and audio file...
I've never done any subtitling, so I have no idea what the procedures are... Someone else will have to help you with that. Gomen.
For these types of questions you might want to check http://videohelp.com... They've got a lotta useful tools and a large forum that should be able to answer your questions on this topic...

Since you are probably going to convert the file to avi (make it smaller), you should probably use Virtualdub. That (plus the Vobsub filter) should allow you the shrink the file and add the subtitles at the same time. There should be guides at Videohelp.com to walk you through the process.

Thanks Dochira. That sounds complicated but I'll try to find out more about it.
So you're both at work? Gambare ne. Actually I should be working too, but you're right...this stuff is more exciting. So exciting infact that I've not been doing anything else lately (I work from home, btw).
Thanks for helping out. Hopefully I can get it to work..or else, I'll have to ask for more help. Hope you guys won't mind.

Movie maker can also take mpeg file, aside from .avi...and a whole bunch of other file formats I've never seen before. God, I'm so behind with all this tech.
I've found the link to virtualdub and vobsub. I'll experiment with my CD this weekend I think, coz I have a feelin' that this is gonna take some time.
Actually, Videohelp.com has given me a lot of ideas for future personal projects. Thanks for recommending the site to me

If Movie Maker can take an MPEG then once you extract the MPEG from the VCD using ISOBuster you should be on your way, ne?

Oops, sori. A glitch in my connection. Didn't mean to post that twice.
Yeah. I think the people who created and maintain that website should be applauded for such a great effort . There are so many stuff in there it'll take me weeks to sort through what I want, what works and don't and what I should avoid.
