well if you all can make it then carry on studying.. local universities do offer japanese also...

well tokyo is in kanto.. it is so called the standard japanese... kansai dialect is quite a pain in the ass... it is monotonous... some difference in some expressions...e.g �m��Ȃ��@becomes �m��� and of course many more...

the southern islands of shikoku and kyushu have their own forms of dialects too.. sometimes a tokyo guy might not understand what a hiroshima guy is saying....

i think to really know more about the language guess the best way is to go into a language school

thanks for the compliment.. but i'm really not that good.. when i just started learning i thought it was really boring.. having to travel 1 hour just to learn something you dun understand.. if only at that time i was already interested in jdoramas.. then i would love having japanese lessons.. but too bad i started loving jdoramas after quitting my lessons.. so it's a bit wasted..

i dunno if you already know this..you could have heard arigato gozaimashita... which is just basically the past tense... hope this answers your question

its not gosaimasu ta.. its gosaimaSHIta...its the past tense..su is the present tense..and shita is the past tense.....so when u hear shita in a word its refering to the past like nominasu (i drink) and nomimaSHITA (i drank)...i think...hope that helps.... although there are alot of better japanese speakers on these boards.... lets see if they prove me wrong.. (but i hope i'm right)

well.....how shall i explain .....u say arigatou gozaimashita at the end of everything ....it sort of mean "thank you for all that you have done (for me)".....in other circumstances, for example when u are being served a drink, u usu say arigatou gozaimasu instead of arigatou gozaimashita..........errr.......understand??

But I'd like to ask if there's such thing as a past tense in Japanese Language. If I didn't remember wrongly, my sis who has learnt Japanese before (Just for 1 year) says that there's no Past Tense in Japanese Language. Uhmm...?

i think there's no future tense.... in my japanese class we learn both past tense (shita) and present tense (su) (but the present and future tense are the same {su})..... am i wrong then? some 1 help.....molarum SAVE ME!!!!

Loveless is correct, there is a past tense in the Japanese language but there are no rules future tense. Future and present tense have the same rules.

"Shita" is normally used for past tense phrases. Like "tabemaSHITA" -I ate. "nomimaSHITA" -I drank. "ikimaSHITA" -went. "kimaSHITA" -came.

If you go on the flipside and say tabemasu- I will eat. nomimasu- I will drink. ikimasu- I will go. kimasu- I will come.

In terms of "ta" It is an informal expression. "shita" would be in the "keigo" catergory/formal way. "Itta" instead of ikimashita. "Tabetta" instead of tabemashita. ~Wakatta?

Aishiteru means I love you... the entire phrase. That should be it. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

ai = love.. love in the noun form..
aishiteru = love in the verb form..

Literally "shiteru" means "doing at the present time". Dakara aishiteru means "I am loving you" (literally).
Goes back to the discussion earlier (about "shita") Shita=I did. Shiteru=I am doing. Suru=I will do. Futher examples include the verb taberu. Tabemashita=I ate. Tabeteru=I am eating. Tabemashita=I ate.
In some cases, you would use "deru" instead of "teru". For example the verb Nomu. Nomimashita=I drank. Nonderu=I'm drinking. Nomimasu=I will drink. Sorry if I got a little off track from the "love" question. For a more in depth analysis of the love subject...........
