Well, what holocaust... Consider this, latest research on the "great" Mao Tse Tung reveals that he's responsible for some 70 million dead Chinese (not counted the war dead), which is more than the number of people Stalin and Hitler killed, and he's still celebrated as a great leader...

The Japanese government has apologized often enough by now (PM Koizumi has done so repeatedly in the not so distant past). Just like the German and Austrian government. I wish people would get the fuck over it. Austria and Germany should not pay one bloody Eurocent anymore (I'm not even going into how everyone whines "the jews" here, "the jews" there, and completely forgets/ignores everybody else who was killed by the Nazis. And then the Germans go ahead, waste millions of Euro for building a buttugly holocaust memorial, that wastes also a lot of space, and is only dedicated to the Jews. WTF... I'd enjoy blowing that thing up.).

Neither should Japan.

Agreed, put it into history books (if we go by that, many history books concerning WW2 in many countries have to be revised anyway), but the groveling has to come to an end. It's been 60 years for crying out loud, really, get the fuck over it. There are more pressing issues than that.

If someone doesn't like that? Well, frak them. Tough shit, I don't see why I'm getting told by our politicians that we "hold a responsibility" even today. I wasn't there, I'm not responsible. Period. Shit happens, it was a war, in war many bad things happen, war is the absence of morale, there's nothing civilized in giving someone a rifle and tell him to kill other people with it and no BS about "laws of war" and "rules of engagement" can change that.

As such, I don't see why my taxes should be used for reparations. There are more important things we should use that money for.

Btw... I expect an apology by the French government for invading Austria during the Napoleonic Wars. And the Italians shall apologize to Germany, France and England for invading them when Caesar was around, and the Greeks for annihilating Troy...

Interesting point though. Remember how China always whines about what Japan has done in the past?

I think the Chinese government can start talking about such things... on the day they remove their forces of occupation from Tibet (where Chinese troops haven't behaved any better than elements of the Japanese army in China). Or maybe they should remember how the Chinese military went into a skirmish with India in the 1960s, which seems to be magically erased from the minds of Chinese politicians.

And you know what? I'm looking forward to the day when the last WW2 survivor is dead. Then it'll just be another chapter in history, like the Sengoku Jidai, like the American Civil War, like Julius Casear, like Napoleon.

I know, parts of what I said don't fall under "political correct", but I don't give a damn about that.

After careful review, I've determined that this thread should be merged with the one that came up in the past.

I agree with that. It's been 60 years since the end of the war. In 15 to 20 years they'll all been dead or senile. For the rest of us, it will be just something that happen long ago.

Does someone hold a grudge against Genghis Khan or Mongolia? They had the biggest empire of all time from China to western Europe including the middle east and Russia. They killed 40% of China's population (~40 millions people). Sadly, the war/rape is not new. There is even evidence that 0.5% of the male population of the world (16 millions) are descendants of Genghis Khan. Maybe it's because he had over 500 wives Naughty or maybe it's the "burn the village and steal the women" thing.

From recent stuff like Darfour, the Japanese in WW2 or the Russians entering Berlin to older events like the Vikings to the Egyptians or the Europeans coming to America, history is full of it. We probably all have a few ancestors that got rape. Puppy Dog Eyes Like they say, history is written by the victors, so everything you read must be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm sure the grudge won't last longer than another 50 years, because we'll all be dead due to global warming. Beaten

If there will be survivors, they will blame those people who made the earth polluted and caused the natural disaster. And if the people responsible for the disaster will survive as well, the innocent people will have a grudge on them Sweat

Bottom line, no matter how you look at it, someone will always have a problem with another.
It's an inevitable aspect of human nature.

I totally agree. Especially since I live in the South. I hear and see a lot of Black/white drama on a daily basis. These problems are just deep rooted and won't be going away any time soon. We just have to learn to live and deal with it. People have been feuding since the beginning of time Shake Head. Its common knowledge.
