dude you just made the understatement of the year.. you know that mina doll...it costs like 3000 dollars in real life...that's crazy, yo!

the unfinished "garage kit" version of the Minna figurine went for 9000 yen, about 83 dollars, and it was available. The finished version is the one that was really expensive.

I just found this while looking at news at AnimeNation:

According to Anime News Service, the "Getsumen Usagi Heiki Mina" parody anime glimpsed in the recent live action Densha Otoko television series will be turned into a full OAV. Gonzo Studios produced the animation for the Densha Otoko television series. Which studio will produce the OAV has not yet been revealed.

I'll probably watch it if it ever comes out seeing as I loved Densha Otoko so much. I wish there were more... Shameful Cry

Found some Densha Trivia....
Toda Keiko performs as Densha's mother. She was the original seiyuu (voice actress) of Matilda-san in the legendary 1st Gundam series. It's a production team's joke.

Episode 3: It is a parody of Gundam that Matsunaga-shi shouts,"Zion koukoku ni eikou are!(The glory must be in the Zion dukedom!)"in Karin-chan's scene.

Episode 4: When Densha was surfing, it took over 5 hours to film and only received a few seconds of screen time.

Episode 7: The scene in the rain took 6 hours to shoot.

The two stars have spent over 1000 hours together filming.
The figurine "Minna" costs 400,000 yen and Itoh Atsushi accidentily broke one of its ears during a take.

Apart from being made into a book and movie, this drama has also been made into an AV.

The opening anime theme was tailor-made for this drama by over 200 staff/cartoonists.

The ending 1 minute theme by Sambomaster filmed in Akihabara took a whole night to film with over 200 extras.

Over 35 actors/actresses were used for the forumers. Each internet scene takes approximately over 48 hours for a 7 minuted scene.

Over 3000 props and figures were used. Densha's room alone used over 132.

In the real BBS drama, apparantely Densha Otoko never noticed Hermes until the police station...

Sato Eriko will be acting in this drama as the friend of Hermes played by Itoh Misaki. In the novel, this friend, Sawazaki Kaho is a career woman who is very picky. According to the densha otoko in the story, he finds Kaho more cheerful than Hermes but she's aggressive in asking questions and is very sarcastic. According to the producer, Sato was chosen as her height was close to Itoh Misaki and that in the novel, it is said that Kaho in real life resembles Sato Eriko.

Sunday, July 17, Actress Eriko Sato, 23, dressed up like a maid, serves drinks on the platform of the Yamanote line at Shibuya station to publicize the Thursday night TV drama "Train Man," in which she appears.Shiraishi Miho will be playing an OL in the drama version who bullies the Densha Otoko as they work in the same company. The character, Jinkama Misuzu is a newly created character who only appears for one scene in the movie version as a reception desk lady. In the drama version, she will be promoted to an OL and works in the same department as the Densha Otoko played by Itoh Atsushi. Shiraishi has always played sweet and innocent roles so far thus this role would be a breakthrough in her career.

The promotional poster of Densha Otoko has been pasted on trains along the Marunouchi Line and Ginza Line from 3 July onwards. The poster with Hermes' photo (Ito Misaki) will be on trains running the Marunouchi Line while the poster with Densha Otoko's photo Itoh Atsushi will be on the Ginza Line. The intersection point between both lines will be the Akasakami station where passengers can expect to see the "meeting" between the two characters. As there is only one train out of 58 along the Marunouchi Line having the poster and 1 out of 37 on the Ginza Line having the same, the chance of seeing both trains at the same station will only be once a week.

The first episode of Densha Otoko achieved a rating of 18.3%, making it the second highest rating for a summer drama so far behind No.1 Slow Dance's 22.5%. In the same time slot was TBS drama, Nyokei Kazoku starring Yonekura Ryoko which got a close result of 18.1%.

FujiTV's weather announcer Kaitou Aiko will be making her acting debut in Densha Otoko as a sick lady who offers advice and support to the Densha Otoko via the Net. She will appear in the 4th and 5th episode. Kaitou is currently a 4th year student in Waseda University and working as the weather caster for FujiTV's morning programme, Mezamashi Terebi.

Indeed, in the last episode, the Matilda action figure was in the table to emphasize that Smile

This thread his inspired me to go out and get the "Densha Otoko" DVD set. Thank you for all the nice information and comments.

At the beginning of this thread someone mentioned Densha's similarities to "My Sassy Girl". I'd like to point out that as some of you know, MSG the movie was based on an internet novel, which in turn was based on a true life story. The author of the this story has come out and said that the novel was only loosely based on his real life experience - he did meet a girl (not in the train though), she was a bit violent (more physical abuse than in the movie), they did part for a while and saw each other again, but didn't end up together.

I choose to believe that the Densha story probably had a similar fate - that an otaku did meet a girl he fancied and they may even have formed so sort of relationship. However I seriously doubt if their chance meeting happened in the train under the portraited circumstances, or that 'Hermes' was as much a dish as Itoh Misaki, or that they ended up together.

But, hell, this is a nice drama - uplifting in general and exuberating for geeks. I'll go watch my DVD set now and hope I get as much fun out of it as some had posted.

Just went through the first 4 episodes and my diaphram needs a break from the constant giggling. rofl

All I can say is Shiraishi (Jinkama) is as good an actress as I thought she was. The others performed their role admirably, but without the brilliance of Shiraishi.

I've got to go through as many episodes as possible before calling it a night!

Finished the whole thing around 1:00 last night. Dog tired after episode 9 but too thrilled to sleep, so I marched on.

I still say Shiraishi was the best actor of the lot - the quasi-evil nymphomanic OL was a real tickler. While I liked Itoh Misaki her character was a little too restricted and doesn't do justice to her acting abilities. Itoh the Densa Otoko got a bit annoying after awhile, but I haven't read the book so I don't know whether this was a case of a good actor acting out a really unlikeable character.

The little side stories with the online gang were very interesting. Someone here already explained the disappearance of the battered wife (the actress got pulled off this project), but I was a bit disappointed that there was no closure for the girl in the hospital.

All in all very good fun. I rated it a '9' - 8 for the way the story was spilled out and and extra 1 for Shiraishi's acting.

To be fair, JTV had some problems with the tracker recently, I think their DNS lost it or something, and it was inaccessible for a short time. Seems to happen every now and then with afraid.org. But it is there now.

The bit about being sued is wrong.
