This is kindda late but neeway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Aiba chan and saorilisa
Merry X-Mas everybody!
Yesterday i went to IdolThoughts' Arashi forum and came across this post. The person said something like "Arashi only had 3 Oricon #1 singles..."
Yeah yeah I know that Oricon is just a (fre@kin') chart. Demo, since i'm kindda into numbers and figures and stuff, i did some research and here's wat i've found.

I'm really proud of our boys
SINGLE-wise, Arashi's released 15 singles (correct me if i'm wrong

) and 12 of them made it to
#1 Oricon. Kansha Kangeki Ame Arashi, Hadashi no Mirai/ Kotoba yori taisetsu na mono and Tomadoinagara only claimed #2 spot (they did get #1 on daily charts though).
Below are the details. I only have the sales figures for some singles (mostly those that made it to top 50 Oricon's year-end chart). Note that the sales figure are only exact as of the chart's date of release (around the end of November that year).
1999:
- A-RA-SHI 11.03.99, later claimed #23 position on Oricon's year-end singles chart with 750,280 copies sold.
2000:
- Sunrise Nippon/Horizon 04.05.00
- Taifuu Generation 07.12.00
- Kansha Kangeki Ame Arashi 11.08.00 only made it to #2
2001:
- Kimi no tameni boku ga iru 04.18.01
- Jidai 08.01.01, also claimed #48 position on Oricon's year-end singles chart with 384,460 copies sold.
2002:
- A day in our life 01.18.02, also reached #21 on Oricon's year-end singles chart with 378,050 copies sold.
- Nice na Kokoroiki 04.17.02, reached #47 on Oricon's year-end chart with 239,740 copies sold.
- Pikanchi 10.26.02
2003:
Both of their singles this year didn't reach #1

One of the reason could be that this is the year of SMAP's sedai hitotsu hana.
However,
- Hadashi no Mirai/Kotoba Yori Taisetsu na Mono ended up at #37 on Oricon's year end chart, 218,185 copies sold.
- Tomadoinagara (a great song IMO) reached #49 with 175,290 copies sold.
2004:
- Hitomi no Naka no Galaxy 08.28.04, #29 on Oricon's year-end chart with 256,187 copies sold.
- Pikanchi Double 02.18.04, #67 on Oricon's year-end chart with 136,355 copies sold
2005:
- Sakura Sake 03.23.05, #55 on Oricon's year-end chart with 172,737 copies sold (as of 11.21.05)
- WISH 11.26.05, #53 on Oricon's year-end chart with 177,528 copies sold (as of 11.21.05)
Minna, I so understand why WISH only got #53. They counted the sales for WISH up to 21.11.05, which means only
5 freakin' days after it was released. What do you expect?
Well anyway,
ALBUM-wise, 4/7 Arashi's albums topped Oricon's chart
Here goes:
2001:
- Arashi No.1 released 01.24.01, later ended up #70 in Oricon's year-end albums chart. Note that this year Johnny's only got 3 groups on this chart (SMAP, Arashi and Kinki Kids?).
2002:
- Singles Collection 1999-2001 released 05.16.03 clinched #4 Oricon
- Here we go! 07.17.02 got #2 position
2003:
- How's it Going released 07.03.03 claimed #2 position. (Funny eh... Nino's himitsu was so great)
2004:
- Iza, Now released 07.21.04 immediately topped Oricon chart.
- 5x5 The best selection released Nov, 04 also topped Oricon chart. 126,532 copies of this album was sold after the first week of release.
<2004 was a sugoi year for Arashi ne..

>
2005:
- ONE released Aug, 2005 came out as #1 on Oricon chart with 172,221 copies sold after the first week of release. It ended up at #100 on Oricon's year-end albums chart.
Good, no?

Wahhhh, I'm so damn proud of our boys.
Further info: All the limited editions of their albums/singles (limited to 100.000 copies i think?) are sold-out after (at most) a week of release.
Well u may think that 100,000 copies is nothing (to compare with US-Europe show-biz blah blah), but please look again at Japan's pool of artists and the average sales record. If a single can sell above 100,000, it's considered very good alr and the single itself will most likely have a place on the top-100 chart. And the best-selling single of the year normally sells around 1 mil. copies. The funny thing is, as years go by sales figures for singles are dropping. If u compare 1999's sales record for Oricon's top 10 singles and these recent years, the difference is great. Arashi's debut single with that sales record can reach top 10 or even top 5 nowadays. I guess it's because more ppl prefer downloading singles online?
MERRY X-MAS Arashi!
