As a pharmacy tech in training, I find that quite funny for some reason....
Seriously though, what happened? I don't have a lot of time to keep up on what's going on anymore....
Looks like I have a bad disc in my lower back (L4/L5)... I'm supposed to have an MRI sometime next week, so in the meantime, I'm doped up for the inflammation and pain.

Getting old.
Have you tried chiropractics? I know some can be quacks, but the one I have is great. Hopefully it's something they can fix non-surgically.... Good luck with that. _________________

Yeah, surgery is the last resort.
My company's VP had the same problem and got a steroid injection in that area and it fixed him up immediately...

I'm just concerned that something like a steroid injection is only a temp solution. You should talk with your doctor about chiropractics and alternative therapies if he/she is open to it. Some of them really do work, it's not just out there stuff. _________________

A good idea. Staying away from meds if you can is a good thing.

Not supposed to fall, even infrequently, from a height of 6-8 feet and not do any damage.. _________________

Not sure how permanent or temporary the relief from the steroid injection should be, but our VP said he's been fine for nearly two years now after his injections...
Anyways, it all comes down to what the MRI discloses...

My Mom had one in her elbow years ago and it is still fine.
Correctly applied to the right zone is a one shot deal. _________________

Steroid injections do work, and, in a sense can be "permanent" as long as you avoid further injury. Chiropractors are useless, I've had them injure me worse than when I walked in their door. I highly recommend avoiding them.
Do what the doc says to get the inflammation down. He will have a sheet of exercizes you can do to strengthen your lower back, ask for it. Do them every morning, and avoid lifting heavy objects with bad posture, and the chances are you can live a pain free life.

While I can not speak personallly for or against chiropractors, I do know that my girlfriend who recently had 2 steroid shots over a one month period to alleviate her pain in her leg due to her back disc problems did go for extensive physical therapy first, and it didn't help her that much so that is why she finally opted for the steroid shots at the Pain Management Dept of hospital. My 80 year old Aunt also had this same type of injection for her arthritic knee at least 6 months ago or maybe more, and she has been walking all over NYC and taking her weekly exercise classes ever since. So Good Luck bmw!!!!

Ive had both good and bad experiences with chiropractors. Ive been injured by one and then the guy who works on me now has done some great stuff. It can be a hot or miss thing unless you find a really good one.

Say bmw did you read some of the posts from yesterday by loris, Eve and myself discussing our opinions on your back disc /leg problem? You didn't know this board had so many armchair doctors!!! When is your MRI?

that's quite an overly dramatic generalization...all chiropractors are not useless, yours might have sucked....though they can't save everybody...they can often employ means to help rehabilitate people without the need for prescriptions, injections or invasive surgery.
