Although they're pretty similar, 2046 and In The Mood For Love aren't related. Tony Leung, however, is like the same character in two different movies, so I guess you could say that 2046 is the sequel in spirit. I don't think you'll find out more of the story by watching In The Mood For Love, though. Sad

oh, ok. i see. oh well. Head Scratch

Check it out anyway though, Wong Kar Wai films are great! w00t! Speaking of which, I need to watch 2046 again. I wasn't aware that Kimura Takuya was in the movie. Bonk

Actually it's impossible to understand 2046 if you haven't seen In the Mood for Love first. Everything that happens in 2046 is based or referring to things that happened in ITMFL.

I don't think it's totally impossible. I see 2046 as the sequel to an alternate universe of ITMFL, as it can probably stand alone. While some of the characters seem to return, I personally don't think it's the continuation of the same story. =T

Anyway I read this: http://www.lovehkfilm.com/reviews_2/2046.htm

What's the buzz on Firewall with Harrison Ford? Good? Bad? Awful?

In my opinion the whole idea of 2046 is to show how the events of ITMFL changed Chow's (Tony Leung's character) personality. The whole film is about how Chow is trying to get over the "romance" he had with Su Li-zhen (Maggie Cheung's character) in ITMFL. That's the film's plot in my opinion. So, if you haven't seen ITMFL, you don't know what the plot is. All you see is random events (scenes) without a meaning. That's why I said it's impossible to understand 2046 if you haven't seen ITMFL.

I'm almost certain that Harrison Ford will use it in the first 5-10 minutes of the film.

Isn't this explained in 2046 though? I haven't seen the movie in kind of a long time, but I remember scenes of Chow reminiscing about his lost first love. I have to watch the movie again. Head Scratch

It's alright. I didn't really like Ju-on or The Grudge, but I thought The Grudge was better. Speaking of which, I still need to watch the second one. It's just sitting in one of my drawers itching to be watched... I hear it's better than the first one. w00t!
