Yeah.
Sometimes there's a long silence between the names. The ones with complicated names are, most of the times, named by their country instead of their real name. _________________

And, OK, I know the following's gonna sound funny coming from The Man, but, last night's 'lympic couples free skate competition was probably one of the best with everything associated with it. NBC showed footage of Tatyana Totmiyanina's nasty face-fall to the ice during competition a few years back; but, man, if there was ever a way to come back 100% from that, she and Maxim Marinin's gold medaling program last night was just the cure.
And, man, for the love of parallel situations! China's Zhang Hao and Zhang Dan's program nearly ended before it started with the latter really slamming into the ice after being tossed in the air (as part of their program, of course) by the former. 'Cept she got off the ice, rested for a few mins and completed the program really well, but, I sure didn't think they were gonna win the silver. Sure, they shoulda' left that risky trickaroo out of their program, but, ah, gotta' take that risk if you wanna go for it, eh?
The Russian team in Olympic and world competition really seem to be the best at this kind of thing, though. And with the two Zhangs' program from yesterday, it can't be said seriously that Chinese pairs skating never gives up. What an incredible situation. See it on replay if you can.

Turin or Torino? Depends on whom you ask, according to MSNBC. NBC and locals use one version, newspapers another for the Olympic host city. The official name of the Olympics is "Torino 2006," but the English translation for the Italian host city is Turin.
And Forbes.com reports that "...it was decided years ago with NBC to 'give an Italian identity' to the games...[We] chose to give a strong visibility to the Italian word - the Torino Games, said the head of the Olympic organizing committee."

Torino should be just Torino - especially with these HUGE events, damn you for having different names for each and every city there is. It would be weird if people from outside the US called New York not New York, or Chicago as something different. When the games were in Japan, Nagano = Nagano too right?
Evgeni Plushenko is just amazing, nobody can come near him.
I just watched how this Lindsey Jacobellis (USA) screwed up to win gold at the Cross Women Snowboarding, cos she wanted to do a fancy jump off the last ramp: but she ended outside the track, just before the finish while she was 4-5 seconds in front of everyone (cos they fell). she ended up winning Silver.

Well at least Nagano stays Nagano, even though you could pronounce it differently, it's still the same name. Imagine Nagano -> Nugine or hmm yeah Torino > Turin
Yeah, there's supposed to be no accent on any syllable in Japanese, but hearing it said, it sounds like the emphasis is on the first syllable, so it's NA-ga-no, just like A-sa-hi or HA-ko-ne...

Where's the accent placed for Nagano?
Should Torino be called Turin or Torino.
This is small beans guys.
In English, we call Belgique (aka Belgie) Belgium.
We Spell Danmark, Denmark.
Eesti is Estonia. Suomi is Finland. Deutschland is Germany. Magyarorszag is Hungary. Eire is Ireland. Italia is Italy. Nippon is Japan. Latvija is Latvia. Norge is Norway. Polska is Poland. Espana is Spain. Sverige is Sweden. And Suisse (aka Svizzera or Schweiz) is called Switzerland.
And guess what? All the other countries and languages do the same thing.
It goes back to the days when just a few merchants and sailors travelled the world, came home, and told the map makers what, and who, was out there.
You'd think they'd have straightened it out by now. Started teaching kids the real names of places from the get go.
But people don't seem to like forced changes to their language. _________________
