i've collected both HYD & MG version, and watched each version a considerable number of times. haha. well, this is wat i think:

1. story & plot - MG should be the one credited coz it follows most of the manga scenes. which means more depth btw tsukasa-makino, as well as rui-makino (which is really lacking in HYD). i would love to see more of the jap rui-makino moments. HYD is a little rushed & compact (9 episodes? come on )

2. character development - yup, still MG. of course, coz the story's longer as simple as tat. HYD couldnt be bothered, so missing out a lot of 'awww~~~ so sweet' moments.

3. cast & environment- HYD HYD HYD~~~~~ way classier than MG. makino is way more adorable in HYD. hanazawa rui.. *thinking hard*, i think both versions did well in the rui role. coz all rui needs is a pretty face & an indifferent, uninterested look. haha. the school & attires are also way more expensive-looking in HYD.

4. acting skills - hands down, HYD. sometimes MG is actually appalling coz of their over-the-top acting. oO; it's amazing how jap actors/actress have such natural acting talents, even the younger ones are better in acting than most taiwan actors/actress

5. soundtrack - tie. both versions have really catchy opening themes (but i think MG did a little better in this). insert-songs-wise, both did equally well.

it wasn't that bad. i watched it a few years back. i also watched the anime, and i even read the manga before watching. mg followed it better. there were also really cute moments. plus, i liked the guys. i admit, i had somewhat of an f4 phase because of them, more accurately, zaizai(hua ze lei = hanazawa rui) phase.

me too!!! haha. i agree with your comments. hyd had a darker, more complex feel to it. whereas mg was feel good most of the time. both the soundtracks are really good. it would have been better if there was no mg2 though. hyd was waaay classier. i remember mg didn't have a big budget coz they were gambling on virtually unknown actors. i also can't decide between rui and lei. lei was just so adorable in his being a bit autistic *ermm.. weird* haha. and rui was just so charming. plus, the hanazawa rui has always been my favorite in the manga and anime. and in real life, i love both zaizai and oguri shun. haay... really hard.
but i loved hyd better. haha. that's it.

i am not a big fan of F4 so i never watched MG, but after watching and reading HYD... i can't get enough of the story... so i went to watch MG... the first 5 episode i really wanted to kill myself... didn't like barbie playing makino nor jerry playing tsukasa... but i do gotta agree that vic is so cool as rui^^ and yea i gotta agree F4 looks more buff so give the feeling of power (through violence?) and while the japanese f4 looked powerful too, in a really rich and dark way. I must say hyd wins by acting... but MG version got me really obsess too... jerry isn't so bad at the end~ and grew to like barbie... b/c i think they followed the story more and the relationship between tsukasa and makino was deeper and closer~^^ i think i enjoy both equally... but i can't see myself watching MG again. maybe just some parts... but as for HYD.. i can watch it OVER and OVER and OVER again..

here are some not-so-known facts to make it easier to understand the background of HYD: (mostly about Hanazawa Rui though, coz both dramas didnt do much justice for his character )

1. Doumyouji is the richest in F4 (duh~ ^^; ), followed by Nishikado, Mimasaka then finally Hanazawa.

2. Their monthly allowances, in descending order: 500,000 yen (per month), 400,000 yen, 200,000 yen, 100,000 yen.

3. Makino's monthly allowance is 3000 yen (which comes from her part-time job and is used for her family as well as groceries too)

4. Nishikado is the eldest in F4, followed by Doumyouji, then Mimasaka. Hanazawa is the youngest of the group.

5. Hanazawa Rui�fs only past-time hobby (manga) is in fact sleeping. According to the other F3 quotes, �eThis guy cant make it through a day without sleeping more than 10 hours�f. It is said he has low blood pressure, so he needs lots of sleep to recharge his energy (no wonder the passive & non-outgoing personality ^^; ).

6. Nishikado refuses to settle down in love because he does not believe in love anymore. Due to 2 reasons, he had a painful experience where he was abandoned (or so he thought) by his first true love, secondly his parents have a shaky marriage and are on the verge of divorce.

7. Hanazawa can never get over Todou Shizuka bcoz she was the person who brought him out of his depression-phase. (yeah, he used to be even more quiet & unsociable). When he was young, he had health problems & was pressured by the fact tat he was the only child in his family (pressure to inherit the fortune), basically he used to be frustrated with his life.

8. Hanazawa�fs true feelings for Makino was never defined, however he once told Makino she was like a �epet�f to him. *sweat *

9. Mimasaka is only interested in older women bcoz the girls in his house are anything-but-mature. ^^; he has 2 girly younger sisters who are very very attached to him. And his mother looks like his older sister rather than his mother.

i think i read this in the magazine before... i didn't really look into it too... but when im free i will read and post it here... it talks bout just facts that they didn't really cover in the drama... stuff like what was makino's grade in school etc etc..~

welcome to the amazing world of HYD girls! im glad you all loooved it... i loooooved it myself... the ending blew me away, i mean i wasnt expecting an episode 9 that good. im still kinda sad they rushed thru SOO MUCH and skipped SOOOO MUCH... i wouldnt mind a sequel but it might not be so good... def crossing my fingers for a special though......

yah! me too! i LOVED the ending. Don't laugh, but I cried during the ending when Domyouji was leaving. (I know I'm weird, but I had no idea what got over me, I just started crying) Loved the ending~ Alot and alot and alot. well, about the sequel, it'd really be great if there was one, but if they had a SPECIAL on what happened AFTER the ending, like just one lil episode to make the ending more happy and sweet, that'd be soo cool! XD

lol.. i soo agree~ the ending told us that they are together... but no TRUE happy endingg!! T.T

guys in sg, the HYD VCD is already out over here in m'sia and the drama totally ROCKS!!! fell in love with MatsuJun all over again - he sure knows how to make people feel what the character feels. I definitely say Japanese HYD is definitely better.
