Found a site with many colors (154 colors) with the kanji, kana and a small picture.
I don't know if they are official colors, because my electronic dictionary don't have them. Puppy Dog Eyes

There's 22 different types of green, like RF (wasabi iro = color wasabi) and ’| (aotake = green bamboo).

I'm working on a Japanese language forum for learning Japanese. It's going to be more for those who are already studying somewhere else, but want somewhere to practice. I'm also looking at voice chat possibilities.

http://nihongoforum.org/forum/

My favorite place to study is http://www.yesjapan.com It is a pay site, but I highly recommend it for those like me who want something cheaper or who don't live near any live Japanese classes.

:p I did have another nick on here, but neither of my emails worked. I dunno if it got erased or what....

I'm self studing in my free time. Not very fast and effective as a class, but it's better than nothing. Mr Green

I bought books and CDs to help me study. I also have a free software for hiragana and katakana. I can read, but I can't write unless it's on the computer. Sweat

That's nice. So you can practice at home too. Smile

The best way to learn a language is when you're a kid. I saw something on TV once. It was a special school in Vancover, where you have classes in english, mandarin and spanish. They take small children from kindergarten or younger and teach them 3 languages at once. They end up fluent in all 3 without wierd accent.

It was kind of funny, cause they had a few caucasian kids, whose parents only new English, talk in Mandarin at 6 years old. They just stand there, looking amazed and not understanding a word their kid was saying. hehe

Logically speaking... If you take a beginners level lesson, the lessons should be adapted to beginners. So it means you can not depend on the Japanese language, thus the lesson will have to be in English right? Ofcourse you could just call to whereever you're your thinking of to take lessons, and ask them.

no language in the world is easy to learn, including our mother tongue, who of us can say that we know our own language quite well? or we never have grammar mistakes in speaking and writing? i cannot say that, at least. for europeans English seems to be much easier than any other ones since it originates from latin system and at the same time does not have that complicated transforms of verb as german, french etc. i am just a beginner of japanese study, frankly i find it a bit simple than learning chinese especially words can be easily pronounced without the horrible four tones of madarin. what a kind of torture to remember different tones!!! that is why i finally decided to learn japanese for instead.

As you said, for speakers of some languages, it might be easier to learn one language than to learn another. For example the Japanese languages consists of many sounds that are also inherent to Italian, thus for Italian people, pronouncing Japanese might not be so difficult.

I think English is relatively easy to learn for Europeans because it's similar in grammar to many other languages, but I wouldn't say that English is a simple language... think of the spelling? There are dozens of ways to spell one particular sound, and many letters are pronounced very differently depending on the word.

"boar, core, poor, pour" (same ending)
"tile, isle, kyle, child" (same vowel)
"cane, chain" (same ending)
"tune, chew" (same start)

and such... Observing this I think some foreigners would rather learn a few forms of verbs rather than this spelling. I'm glad I somehow grew up with English thanks to the Internet and television, and that I didn't need to learn this from a book Beaten

not really Sweat i was and am overseas almost all my life and away from my parents most of the time, but when i was a kid i always loved to eavesdrop on my dad's phone conversations and mess around with his books, so it's not really that hard for me to learn japanese later on.

and yeah i totally agree that its easier to adapt to a language when you're still a kid. in fact, it's easier to adapt to ANYTHING when you're a kid. behavior traits, habits, musical knowledge, school, ....

so true, so true.
i dont think i even have a mother tongue. and even if i must have one, i'd say its english because its the language i know best. or i can say i have a lot of mother tongues, like chinese, japanese, bahasa,..... but if someone were to ask me write a novel in any of those languages, i'd faint rofl
i know chinese more than japanese, but i think japanese is more fun to learn! and fyi, mandarin has five tones, four mains and one silent.

Indeed. Smile

I posted this earlier in another thread, but since this is the learn Japanese thread, I'll repost it here. It could be useful for some people. It's learning materials as well as stuff to pass the JLPT exams. From level 1 to 4. Smile ... from the Meguro Language Center. They are based in Tokyo. Just click on "Free Material" on the top right. (It doesn't like Firefox btw, so you'll need Internet Explorer)
