It's Fuji TV's retelling of the classic "Genroku Chushingura"
And I have to say... not bad.
Mizoguchi's 1941 film "Genroku Chiushingura" is a masterpiece, so there's no way I'd compare the two. But this one told the story well, and it had an amazing cast.
Put simply, it runs almost 3 hours in length, and though I'd planned to stretch it out over a couple of days... I ended up watching all of it yesterday.
Man, I would love to have seen the NHK 49 episode version of this story. _________________

Hmm... Interesting.

Yeah, Mizoguchi's version is considered a classic, though the video quality is pretty bad, making it a bit distracting at times.

Yeah, I'm curious, too, though I wonder how much artistic license they would have taken, considering what I've seen them do with Musashi...
Just finished watching Virgin Road in a crazy marathon run that I haven't done in a while
It's incredibly rare that I get to watch 2 such incredible shows back to back. But this was one of those rare times - Kinpachi followed by Virgin Road.
Virgin Road (aka. Kinpachi meets GTO ) was one of the best jdoramas I've seen with powerful, gripping and emotional moments spread out throughout the series. Without question, Takeda and Sorimachi gave among their best acting performances I've seen so far and Wakui and Mai were excellent as well. While the plot maybe a tad over-the-top in terms of realism at times, it nevertheless had an excellent, well-balanced script that keeps the drama moving at a steady pace. With a very suitable theme song, Virgin Road is definitely among one of my top jdoramas. _________________

I watched episode #8 of "Jikou Keisatsu" last night... and the fact that I haven't seen episodes 1-7, and that I don't know if #9 through the end will be subbed seemed sort of fitting.
This is a goofy little bit of police silliness, filled with prat falls, puns, meaningless (I think) sight gags, double talk, snappy patter, and oh, yeah, a mystery each week.
The plot seems to be that an odd-ball uniformed cop enjoys solving mysteries once the statute of limitations has run out. He doesn't arrest anyone. He just figures it out, and says, gottcha!
Nonsense. Silliness. I love it.
Someone said they were planning on hard subbing this one, but that was months ago, and I haven't seen any mention of any progress.
Someone else has chosen to soft sub episodes 1, 2, & 8.
Why 1, 2, & 8? I have no idea. But like I said, that pattern sort of fits this series.
I'm downloading #s 1 and 2 now. The way it's going, just when I finish those, someone will come out with subs for #7.
So far, my whole experience with this series is just amusing the heck out of me. _________________

I'm glad you liked it. Ahh memories... makes me want to watch it all over again.
I just watched the first two eps of Sekachuu. I can see why people go crazy over that show.

Just finished "Gokusen 2". I've read a number unfavourable reviews on this drama, and really wasn't expecting much - I was pleasantly surprised. The story hasn't changed much from the previous incarnation, and Nakama Yukie worked hard to keep the exact same Yamaguchi Yumiko. Nevertheless the plots are sufficiently entertaining.

Albeit redundant.
Actually, even the first Gokusen had redundant story lines: student gets in trouble, Yankumi bails them out. But it did have the underlying story of her trying to keep her background secret...
