Hmm, just in response to some of the posts that posted a lot of anti-rhetoric: you're good at making your own. Also, why should people be forced to speak a language that is not, by law, the official language of the country? Secondly, being anti-American isn't entirely a bad thing. Being able to recognize one's pros and cons has always been considered a humble thing--though, being severly pro or con is something to be cautious against. Also, to be quite frank, America doesn't give as much foreign aid as it promotes. There is probably more money going into commercializing foreign aid than the actual percentage of American tax dollars which is around 1-3%; in contrast to other countries that are smaller in not only size, but the country income as well, giving nearly 10% of their gross to foreign relief aid. And anyone who believes that the title Democrat or Republican separates candidates hasn't looked into the American government system. What separates most people is money. The only people who are even close to the average American are the independents, who American people, ironically, barely give a glance to, hahaha--despite the American idealogy of individuality and independent thinking, most people prefer to belong to a group and fiercely adhere to it.

Hm, and that's about that.
Are you originally from Japan? Your English is quite well I may say.
May I argue that foreign aid does NOT come cheap. Don't expect a whole shit load of money to go to another country. I, as a tax payer wouldn't want all of my tax dollars to go to another country. (Don't think many others would either) Many many tax dollars are spent foreign aid every year. Foreign aid is expensive and if it's not enough than what's being paid now, let the liberals fund it because they're the ones complaining about it.
And yeah, America does not have an official language. But shit, if you're in a country with a million of opportunities which the majority of the population only speaks English, don't you think that it's common sense to be able to speak English??!!! Don't try to sell me a pack of smokes if you can only speaks Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese or whatever. Because I can't! (I can only speak English as Japanese is a second language!)
Liberals and Conservatives are not seperated by money. It's the way of thinking and the way they think ABOUT spending money. Liberals are always saying "It's not fair, it's not fair. We should do this and that. Blah blah blah ." Also, liberals say that we should outlaw gun ownership in America. Why criticize people with guns? It's those dumbasses who kill people with guns that are stupid. (One of many stupid arguments Liberals come up with)
If you are an American just living in Japan, you must be a liberal.
Secondly, (if you are an American) how can you call yourself an American? Saying that "Being Anti-American isn't entirely a bad thing".
Shame on you! We should ship you off to Afghanistan or something. Freedom isn't free. It's been paid with the precious blood from our people. In your next life, I hope you live in an "Un-American" country. Then try and say how you feel that being " Anti-[whatever country you'll be from] ain't such a bad thing". You'll get executed right there. If not, tortured (having your balls cut off) or whatever. (This post is only relevant to what I'm trying to tell you if you're an American)
Be proud to be an American! Don't take your freedom for granted!

Ok, I haven't checked the forums in a while, and I just glanced upon this thread, so what I'm commenting on are the initial discussions about reparations.
First off, I believe N. Korea should, indeed, receive reparations from Japan for what happened during colonial rule. At the time, N. Korea and S. Korea were a united nation, so my arguments for reparations apply to the two countries as a whole.
I think what happened during Japanese colonization has largely been shoved under the rug because the Japanese government has done an excellent job of covering its tracks. The heinous things that happened during that period are only just now surfacing.
For example, Koreans were banned from using their own language in public. Young girls were kidnapped and forced into prostitution through Asia (aka - comfort women). Massive amounts of Koreans (and Chinese) were used for human expirements for over thirty years.
You could argue, "oh what the hell, the issue's over and done with. These Koreans just want money." But this is more than a matter of money. It's justice more than anything. The Japanese government has failed to acknowledge a lot of thigns that happened, and they are only now fessing up to the things they did during the colonization period.

I do agree with you there about the reparation. But in all history almost every country or nation in the world has committed atrociousity and crime against humanity. The USA was a country born from the genocide of the Native American. There are so many conquered or vanquished peoples. Can everyone get reparation? I do wish that the survivors of the war that was truly affected by it do get reparation before they die. Ghil04 what do u think about reparation for slavery in the USA? Many of those slave have died and the folk that are seeking reparation never experienced salvery.

Why pay N. Korea? Yeah it's true that they were one nation before. But now N. Korea is their own nation. A communist nation, may I add. The money won't go to the public. It'll go to that fat bastard Kim Jong Il. Upon receipt, he'll use it to further build his wealth and apply portions of it to his nuclear project program. N. Korea is a poor country who would do anything for additional funds. But like I said, look at the way they spend their money.
Why would Japan want to "fund" something like that? Yeah, it is unfortunate what happened to them (Koreans) during Japan's colonial rule. (Boo hoo)
If anytime were a good time to pay, they should've done it when Korea was a whole. But now it's too late.
If Japan were to pay N. Korea, what would you do/say after a nuclear missle flies over your head? -Cry and complain that Japan shouldn't have given ANY funds or support to N Korea at all. -Right?
Heh, thought so. _________________
