I havent seen appleseed as well so im not familiar about its cg but for the ones that i did watch, I think Macross Zero has the best animation thus far.
Too bad the release is slow, got to wait next year ofr eps4.

Sometimes too much CG take the whole "ANIME" factor out of it.

As I said in other part of this forum my favorite anime are Evangelion, Fushigi Yuugi, Bubblegum Crisis, Ayashi no Ceres and Noir. Of course I like so many more.
Today I just finish of see "Jungle wa itsumo Hare nochi Guu", is excellent!! soo funny, soooo crazy!!!

they look a lot like those game graphics (jet set radio / sonic / zelda on GC etc) a little bit more enhanced tho

well I can't say I know much about the new engine being used but by all accounts the film is made up of CGI and traditional cel animation. I really don't know how it's put together but I'm pretty sure it isn't 100% computer animated.

CEL based anime started slowing down a few years ago

I think sam is saying the use of 3D CGI visuals may be a concern.
I don't think Masume is doing anything wrong, he's only trying something new and I don't think traditional looking anime will die out as a result. The standards are always being set higher for anime but you have to remember that not all shows and films have the same kind of budgets.

Yea by saying most are CGI animated these days is a bit of a stretch. There are computer aided animated tv series which are hand drawn then tinkered with on computer, like soul taker for example. traditional hand drawn cel animation has not died out, it would defeat the point of the anime style and what animators have been doing for years, it's just once in a while they can play around with new ideas. These days I think there's room for every style.
