I'm finishing up all the dramas (ex: eps 9 - 11) from Spring 2006,
and watching everything for Summer 2006 EXCEPT for Dance Drill (it was horrible to me, I nearly fell asleep 4 times in addition to almost poking myself in the eyes. Japanese seem to love it because the main character = "long legs, a small face, and is tall" I guess that's all it takes to get ratings?, ha)

I finally finished Wagahai wa Shufu dearu Sad It was soooo good, sad it had to end!

I've just finished watching Brother Beat. It's a typical family drama but immensely entertaining.

I'm following Kekkon Dekinai Otoko as well as Hanayome wa Yakudoshi this season (maybe others too). Hope to start on Iryu soon.

Simple: high school cheerleaders. You don't really need a story, because all the sukebe are going to watch it anyway. Bleah hehe Bonk

i've been fairly disappointed in a number of things i've seen in the last few months....i actually started discarding shows in the recycle bin upon watching them....i used to archive everything i watched on DVD before but now...it's increasingly apparent that it's meaningless as some of the stuff i've been watching i will never view again.

First post on this thread from me so I may be repeating something already discussed.

We just finished Tenka last week here in Southern Calif. People just kept moving around from the city to the coutnry and back and walking in and out of rooms. Serious discussions about the most trivial things. Turning Ryonuske into a priest with a bald head and serious look on his face took away all elements of romance between him and Tenka; turned it into a vey sterile drama. Made their marriage seem like a fixed event.
But overall I enjoyed it. Probably because you did not have to think and it kind of played like soothing background music. Tenka's ever present smile was pleasing and relaxing. If you missed an episode or 5 episodes it didn't matter. There really was no story line to follow.

Wakaba took the place of Tenka. Just finished ep 5. I'm having trouble getting into the series; but that is always the case with a new drama... so I'll wait (as if I had choice).

Sunday night's Dragon Zacura is not suspenceful, but very charming. I like it. I did not realize I liked it until the Sunday before last KSCI managed to delay starting it for 30 minutes and then broadast it without English subs. I then knew I liked it because I was very upset and emailed the station to ask them to rerun that episode. And lo and behold they did rerun it last Sunday. (hmmm was it my email? Nut )

I just finished 1 Liter no Namida last night and I wanted to watch something a bit lighthearted, so now I'm working my way with Kimi wa Petto. I'm barely on episode 3, and so far it somewhat reminds me of Anego (nothing bad, really). It's going pretty good w00t!

I disagree about Ryunosuke's loss of hair being the equivalent of loss of sex appeal and masculine vigor. I remember the first time he took off his straw hat to reveal himself in the full flower of his new serious persona, and he was quite dazzling. One has only to remember Yul Brynner.

At the end of Tenka they showed a flashback of the first time Tenka saw him, playing his guitar in the street. Although she was instantly smitten, if you look closely, he really looked like a young scruffy kid and nothing more.

I for one was very happy with the ending. I usually have to augment a series end with my own made-up post-ending ending, but this one took me to the finish line. Very satisfying.

Who would have thought that Tenka would end up with a Jacqueline Kennedy era hairdo and a baby she pays less attention to than her little flock of nursery school students? Or that Ryunosuke would be happy playing Run Around the Rice Fields with same?

I just liked that it tied up all the loose ends, and everyone ended up happy. And back to Ryunosuke...he had to do something to enhance his stature with his own family, full of priests as they are, and with Tenka's father, who thought him a skirt chasing ne'er do well. The priesthood was really the only alternative to rock musician that came to mind, so I don't see what's wrong with it. Tenka was hardly the scantily clad siren wailing for her demon lover. I thought a priest suited her lifestyle perfectly.

I do agree the series flowed over you like warm bath water...very soothing and relaxing and not a lot of angst. Not like Sakura. I remember watching Sakura so intently with so much tense concentration, I would lean so far forward on the sofa trying to absorb every nuance that I would almost fall over.

Tenka was a lean back on the cushions kind of show.

just finished ao no hosou. ninomiya was quite good at portraying this role - the movie itself was very steadily paced - and somewhat suspenseful yet eerily calm. its a pretty decent movie and i must say it was a rather interesting watching experience.

I'm watching now Pride and Minami-kun no koibito. Although I don't really like Nino, but I like how he's acting in this drama.
