If this is the show, then most of the otakus did try to help.

Of course, they did it at the height of densha mania, so maybe all the otakus were primed and ready to save their "Hermes".

Ok.

But please explain how it is Engrish? With my limited Japanese skills, it looks like a pretty faithful translation that is not overly awkward.

It's really the the "the group" part that seems awkward, and Triky's fault for getting me on the engrish.

it's definitely engrish because the construction of the sentences is imprecise and duplicative

Well, I think a few years back there was a big scandal near Okinawa involving the rape of a Japanese girl by US soldiers stationed there. And, the Japanese were unable to prosecute them due to the sanctioning laws set forth.

And, not to be picky, but I think it is kind of obvious that the US, although very diverse in culture, still has lots of racism and prejudice (not saying other countries don't), but the US is well known for it.

Thus being so, sometimes Japanese establishments are closed off to non-Japanese natives. An Asian might get past the door, but you would need some Japanese language to go further.

One example of this, although maybe not suitable to be heard by minors...
Japanese Soaplands are closed off 95% of the time to people other than Japanese natives. I don't know the exact reasoning behind that, but maybe they think foreigners have enough STDs that it will eat through 3 layers of condoms.

One theory is that they don't want to have to explain to foreigners (ie can't speak fluent Japanese) how things work.

I remember there was some one from Europe who obtained Japanese citizenship who was denied access to a public bath because he wasn't Japanese.

Racism isn't only a problem in Japan, it's a problem in the whole world imo. Everywhere you go you'll be confronted with it, even when you are in your own nation. Just ignore people who are afraid of other culture's and be with people who are open to it and do accept you as who you are. Well, just my point of view since I've alway's been amongst 'outsiders'.

Everyone here agrees that all countries have the problem of rascism. But I think the main question is does Japan display more of this rascism relative to other countries.

I don't think so. I've seen how racism is handled here and in neighbouring country's and it possibly can't be any worse. Sure, they all say racism is bad this and that, but they do so little to prevent it (imo). But what do I know, I don't know how this issue's are handled in Japan so I can only wait and see for myself next year when I'm there.
