If I had the money and the time off, I'd seriously think about jumping my car and driving down there...not so much for the nisei festival just to get away and out.

Mike, you should see the Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco. Although it's probably not as big as the Nisei Week. I like the tacky parade. Although the shrine hoisters at the end are alway the best part. The food is good too. Do that have something like that at the Nisei Week?

They did a couple of years ago when I was there and it was wild and fun. I missed last year's event Puppy Dog Eyes, so I don't know if they hoisted the shrine or not... I'm not sure if I'm going to catch the parade this year... Head Scratch

Oh, the Mikoshi. I should really post that picture I took at this year's festival. And one day, I will be one of those carrying it. You'll see.

I helped carry that thing two years ago. My shoulder was pretty sore afterwards but they give you a lot of free sake. Basically, you find to find where its parked a few hours before the parade begins. It's going to be parked all day outside somewhere near the start of the parade route. You just have to sign a waiver and they will let you carry it.
