Hehe! Actually it takes 35 mins to burn a 700MB cd at 2x and 20 mins at 4x. This burner has served its master well for the past few years. I shall let it retire when I have found a successor to it Smile I think I already have but no money, hehe.
Methinks you've been a bad boy this yr pemu. Otherwise, you'd have gotten it from santa already! Wink BTW, since you're so far up north, santa prolly can walk to your house and deliver instead of riding his sleigh, right? Mr Green

okay, here's one i just saw a demo on the net - a freeware software called CAMSTUDIO that allows you to record your screen activiy. This might come in handy if u want to make a tuorial or to anything that has to do with recording stuff from your screen.
http://www.ehelp.com/camstudio/product/screenrecording/

I saw this software in actio when they were doing a demo of desktopx 2.0
How has this been working, arnel? you still using it? This would be nice if theres a full version of it instead of the demo...

Go with a dual. As for drives, the Pionner 106/A06, NEC-1300, and Optorite based as safe bets.

STAY AWAY FROM THE Lite-On 411. Atleast I think that's the number.. whatever their 4x +- drive is. There's reports of it being a very poor writer. The quality of the write process apparently isn't very good at all.

I Agree With Buruburu The 106/A06 Is A Good Buy. If You Want A Little Less Expensive Drive Go With The 105/A05 (Although It Is Not A Multi).

I Recommend -R Discs, +R Is Not Really Worth The Effore Unless You Specifically Need That Format For Support On Your Home DVD Player. By Far More Home DVD Players Are Compatiable With -R Discs Over +R.

Go With A Sony Drive If You Intend To Strictly Use +R Discs.

I havent converted any avi to vcd so I'm not sure which is good. But when u buy a cd-writer it usually already comes with a vcd writing software like nero or easycd.

Nero is pretty straight foward and easy to use. Anotherone is TMPGenic (or somethinglike that)

my list, though a bit short

emule. sorry all, i don't like bt. the reason being that i am sharing the internet bandwidth with 2 other roommates. once bt is up, it takes over ALL the bandwidth. everything slows to a crawl. argh

gspot. man, this is one heck of a useful program to have, figuring out which codec the file is encoded in and whether the current system has it

icq. the pioneer in messaging (or at least i think).

i usually use my system for watching movies, doramas etc. so no heavy duty software like office. Smile

I use virtualdubmod for all my video conversion needs but I'm not sure if the mpeg file created by vdub will work without hitch when burning to vcd. Anyway, try tmpeg aswell as suggested by niko2x.

Forgot to add, for non-pro graphics use, PhotoImpact is very handy. It's easy to get started coz it has thumbnail previews of most of the effects.

For animated gifs, gif animator is what i use since it comes as part of PhotoImpact. Never used any other gif tool so i'm not sure how it fares with others...

i'm not sure whether virtualdubmod can convert to mpeg. what i usually do is convert using tmpgenc then burn into vcd. search for the conversion guide in http://www.vcdhelp.com. converting to vcd using cd burning software sometimes produce undesired result.

arnel98: u have the coolest avatar i've seen ever. how did u make it? maybe u could create a tutorial for those who are interested Applaud
