 I agree with Squall Ryuji in that if you are interested in Japanese history you'll find the drama to be fairly interesting since the drama takes place during Japan's opening up of the country.  I thought the story kinda dragged a little in the middle, but that might just be me since I'm not a real big taiga drama fan to begin with.

 I like Maison de Himiko too, because of its sensitive portrayal of gays. Also coz the movie stars Joe and Kou, both my favorites.
