Totally different. The squid ball i think that you are refering to, are a snack, in a dried pkge with pureed squid in there and are about a cm in diameter, right?
Takoyaki is a HUGE batter ball (about 4 cm in diameter) and have an actual piece of tako in there. Best eatened when it's piping hot, preferably with beer. Maybe next time you go to JPN arnel, just go to one of those takoyaki stand, they have them all over the country! _________________

Havent actually been to japan except for those stop-over flights usually in either kansai or narita. I'll see if they have any takoyaki store in the aairports next time... _________________

went to a japanese buffet yesterday and had myself a variety of sushi. I used to only eat california maki until i watched shota no sushi. After that, i became curious as to what the others taste like and now, im looking for more stuff to try. The sushi with oyster is pretty good.
I also like gyoza, tempura, and miso soup. Never tried the seaweed spinach soup though. _________________

Man, this post made me wanna get sushi again for lunch. Next time try the nigiri sushi (real sushi) instead of the maki. Nigiri are the ones with the fish on top of the rice. _________________

Ooooo Japanese food, I love it. I have never eaten so healthier before or since my stay there, although I still tried out the junk food ofcourse. I tried loads of things out there. I really like Okonomiyaki which is like a huge pancake they make infront of you in a bar. I also got hooked on U.F.O Noodles which is totally bad for you but tastes great. They put this black sauce on the noodles which is ace.
I love sushi ofcourse and tenpura. For sweets I love Melon de Melon and dango. Dango is perhaps the greatest sweet in the world ever. It's a sweet dumpling (best I can describe it). You get three on a stick. pink, green and white. Chikua is interesting too. It's processed fish meat that looks like a sausage.
I also like the sea food and there's a lot of interesting things out there to try that I would never have got the chance to do in the UK. _________________

In Japan and even here in the US, I'm always in a search for good oyako donburi (chicken and egg), I love it!
Also, I like Spaghetti Nero di Sepia (Rustichella d' Abruzzo), haven't been to Italy but in Japan, you find it at many Italian shops. It's squid ink spaghetti (don't get grossed out). It's actually pretty good!
I like trying different sushi and of course love okonomiyaki.
Unfortunately, when I'm in Japan...knowing that I'm going to blow my money on clothes, food and other merchandise, especially going back and forth on the JR rail. I'm left with conbini like 7-11, Sunkusu, Family Food Mart or Lawson for my usual CC Lemon with whatever I can buy for 500 yen.
I like visiting Japanese bakeries because their bread is delicious.
Sometimes I'll have the inkling to spend money on Domino's pizza ($39 US dollars for a large) with a fourside Italian, curry, seafood and vegetable pizza. Or go to Lotte in Harajuku for a burger or a cheap rice burger at Mos burger (note: Think Carl's Jr. is sloppy, I can never eat this thing without it breaking up on me) or greasy KFC or McDonald's for whatever is new and can't find in the US.
But as much as I'm into Japanese food, definitely like exploring food from other countries as well.
