If anyone is interested, you can download episodes of "Lets Learn Japanese Basics" videos from http://www.getasianmusic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5829&start=0

The series itself is pretty old - mid 80's, by the looks of it - but it would still be useful I guess.

It's a great site too, if you are into Japanese and other Asian music.

If it's possible to transmit it digitally, you can theoretically get it from bit torrent. Without any real searching I found a torrent that includes the whole series of the videos mentioned above, all the Pimsleur Learn Japanese CD's, and a stack of learning books. But it's over 4G in size Bleah

There's so many factors that influence torrent speed and availability that I won't go into it here. I use Bit Tornado as aclient, which seems to work OK.

yeah pimsleur i think is a pretty good thing to start off...yes i agree with setfree in his view that using only japanese media as a srouce of learning isn't good enough...well scratch that, it could be...but it would take forever since they tend to only use certain phrases over and over thus it would take a long time to learn all of the necessary vocab...
but anyway...back to wat i was saying...i've only been studying for about 3 months (atm all i have is my pimsleur lessons to get me by...i hope at some point in the future...i find myself a japanese friend so i can learn more) so i only know a little bit but i know i guess enough to prolly get me by on the spot...no i cannot hold a solid conversation but i guess i can say i know enough to suit my current needs...i don't need atm fluency...i just wanted to try to language see how much i could learn...yes you can flame me for just wanting to try it but that's the truth...sure if i get a chance to learn more i'll take the opporunity in a heartbeat because i'm that kind of person who wants to learn as much as i can and as many languages as i can...hopefully...

lol i digressed a bit from my topic and taht is...pimsleur=good starting point...teaches you basic grammar and vocab...enough to say...be able to go in and introduce yourself and have small talk and the like

LMFAO that is the best portrayal of a japanese language student ive ever read. the part about the knowitall, deer caught in headlights and anime freak. jesus I seriously did feel like planting explosives in my classes many times because of the anime freaks alone hahaha. I'm sure all the anime lovers that read this will take offense, but if you read the link and dont think youre like that then dont wory, im not talking about yall hahaha omg again mad props, homie[/img]

lol uhh thnx...i guess knowing a little about the language...i understand his humor now...but that seriously scared me from trying until i reached the bottom...it's all in good fun and imo if ur serious about actually wanting to learn the language...i don't think the method you do it really matters...waht matters is the end result neh?

ok that ends my involvment with the current discussion

i actually had found this like years ago when i was first considering learning japanese cuz 1. japan is not far from my home country of the philippines and so i figured and 2. (yes this was a reason back then) i had started watching anime and wanted to be able to watch without resorting to subs so i wanted to start learning...so i was looking around and this popped up and gave me a scare until i read the bottom...
i almost forgot about this until this whole thing with setfree

well usually they are in this order when speaking

(time)-->(main topic)--->(place)--->(verb)

But know that the main topic of discussion is addressed first always. for example

if you wanna say i went to school this morning, you say
"(kesa)(watashi)ha(gakkou)e(ikimashita)
japanese people, regardless of what sentence you say, tend to wait till you finish your whole sentence, because they want to hear the verb at the end, and whether or not you used it negatively or positively, ya feel me?
Im not sure what you mean when you say "talking from person to person" though.
regardless of any confusion you may have, just use the above pattern and it will help you big time as you progress through the beginner classes, cuz. peace
