just finished tenshi ga kieta machi. GREAT SHOW! One of the best jdramas ever. Great cast, fantastic plot development, super touching, makes this a great great show. It also has 2 great theme songs. Fumiya fujii's song is really tear-jerking, and kinki kid's song was nice as well. It starts off abit boring but after 2-3 episodes it picks up and never drops again. Highly recommended.

Can anyone recommend J-dramas for someone whose favorite is Strawberry on the Shortcake? Someone called it "bittersweet" and I agree.
I also liked Long Vacation, Beautiful Life, and Good Luck (so far), in that order (but not nearly as much as SOS). I found GTO, Summer Snow, and Virgin Road to be completely unwatchable. I particularly hated GTO. It made me cringe. I couldn't even finish the first episode.
Any suggestions?
Well SOS is one of my favourites... but so is GTO, summer snow... Well i would recommend wakaba no koro, tenshi ga kieta machi, sora kara furu ichi oku no hoshi, nemureru mori, and overtime, based on the stuff u like. If u like extreme melodramas like beautiful life i guess u will like stuff like majou no joken and kamisama mou sukoshidake.

This is a J-Dorama movie I saw last week. A poignant film about Polish kids, who were orphaned in Siberia after the Bolshevik Revolution, who spend time in a hospital in Japan.
Many Poles who were working for the Imperial Russian government in Siberia were killed by the Bolsheviks, leaving the Polish kids subject to starvation.
Some of these orphans were accepted by the Japanese government and sent to a Red-Cross hospital in Osaka in 1922 to be rehabilitated before being repatriated to Poland. The kids overcome cultural and language barriers, and at the end, one kid refused to leave Japan.
I don't know how the director found all these white kids in Japan who could speak Polish.

My favorite dramas to reccommend are Beautiful Life (my favorite drama), GTO, Summer Snow, and Virgin Road. For more comedy than drama "You're Under Arrest!" is fun. Also "Summer Scent" is a really good K-Drama. I watched the box set from Yesasia.com and it was very touching and I liked the OST too. I'm on episode 8 or 9 of Long Vacation right now and it's very good so far too.

Thanks for the suggestions windrider. Glad to see I'm not the only one who liked SOS. Now that's what I call MELODRAMA with a capital M. Except for the ending (which seemed tacked on), I thought it was very clever. I can see why some people might not like it though, especially females.
You don't happen to know where I might find any of those titles do you? I will be in Tokyo in about a week and could try to track down the VCDs or DVDs but it seems almost none of them have English subtitles anyway.
is toshie and matsu a good drama?
I see that it has two version, summer version and spring version, what's the difference?
should I buy it or not.......?

I don't really know anything about that though since i've never been to japan...

It hasn't finshed playing out here yet, but Nakama Yukie and Abe Hiroshi are both in the series Musashi... And both are very good in their respective roles...
does this jdrama Musashi have any relationship with the book by Eiji Yoshikawa or just another historical fiction that isnt based on Yoshikawa's imagination.
(i haven't read any real biography on Musashi.. .. although i think i know there is somewhere..)
