Hmmm... I balled in every epi of Ichi Ritoru no Namida (except the first one) which was my first time every crying during a show/movie of any kind.
I got teary-eyed watching the end of Orange Days and in a few more, but I wouldn't call that breaking into the ugly cry.
It was definitely the ugly cry for Ichi. >>so embarassed<< _________________

Yes. I would highly recommend it. It's much better than the animated version because it puts the story into perspective. The aunt was not the ogre the anime made her out to be. And, because you're looking at real humans, the emotions are that much more powerful.

Ah, I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one crying here.
Let's see, I cried watching
Summer Snow
Ichi ritoru no namida
Mukodono
Gokusen 1 & 2 (I must be crazy to cry at comedies )
Kamisama, mou sukoshi dake
Sekai no Chuusin de, Ai wo sakebu
Strawberry on the Shortcake
GTO
Maybe in some other dramas too, but that's all I can remember.
