hey i uploaded a few shounen club live performances by NEWS on page 791 you can go dwld them if you want and try youtube.. you can find more of their live performances there.
for me, i'm the opposite. i got into ryo first through ganbatte ikimashoi and one litre of tears==> NEWS===>K8 ('cause ryo and uchi are there)
and now i'm appreciatating K8 more after i watched more stuff about them and found out they are really crack ^^

When you start off in the entertainment world young, growing older doesn't make much of an impact on popularity. Especially not if you're a Johnny who has had almost all his life shown on TV and been groomed in many areas, so they have something to fall back on. Plus, male artistes normally gain more fans as they grow older, it's females who generally lose out.

oh yeah, and I doubt anyone in the right mind would want to learn Malay. I mean, unless you live in a dominantly Malay-speaking country like Malaysia, it's pretty useless, isn't it? It's not like Malay is one of the main languages in the world like English and French, nor is Malaysia a country that holds a lot of economic clout like China and Japan. Gone are the days when it once was the lingua franca...

hello. i'd just like to say that i am honestly thrilled to have you guys tell me off from time to time, about NEWS.
I realised that sometimes i can be rather an idiot, assuming that i know everything about everybody. This has been a humbling experience.
my love for NEWS is fairly new, but i thought they were pretty good. i seek your guidance not only in this NEWS thing, but to learn to not be so 'know-it-all'. thanks _________________
well, Yamapi has always been popular in JE, and yes, NEWS probably wouldn't even be alive now if not for him. That was the reason why Yamapi has always been put in the spotlight... he was used to attract more fans to NEWS. Now, maybe they would survive without Yamapi, but they would probably struggle, because, Yamapi fans may not necessarily be NEWS fans. Yamapi is more successful than NEWS itself, as shown by sales of his single. As of now, Yamapi fans are supporting NEWS because he is in NEWS, but out of it, they would only support Yamapi. No Yamapi in NEWS means that their support for NEWS stops. I'm not saying this of all Yamapi fans, just those who support NEWS solely for Yamapi.
The truth is i hate to hear " NEWS was alive because of Pi", but yeah it's the truth, even me...i got into NEWS after seeing Pi in Nobuta , and at first i only paid attention to Pi not NEWS , but watching NEWS made me realize that i like NEWS more than Pi .I like 8 of them .
Talking about English, yeah i think Notti is good, uhm the others... , ack i'm afraid of Japanese's English, it made my headache when i tried to figure out "What the hell they're saying?!?!" _________________

hey we're all learning here! I never knew there can be so many ways to analyze NEWS till i joined this thread haha ^^
@misaru yeah me too at first i only paid attention to ryo and was super that yamapi always steals the spotlight. although i do have a favourite member but i too figured that i like NEWS as a full 8-member group rather than just because of a particular person.
and hehe honestly when i hear them sing in a language other than japanese, i would think that they are singing japanese and wouldn't even figure out until someone else informs me that it's actually in english/chinese. that makes me think if we sing/speak japanese, would the japanese be able to understand us too

What i hear is that the Japanese are very proud of their language, their heritage, and hence the focus on their language is very strong. MY SINCERE CONGRATULATIONS ON THAT.

I understand everyone wants the 8 members to share attention more equally, but please don't say Yamapi "steal" the spotlight........it's not something he can control.......and in fact he did help the other members (except Ryo-chan, he was well-known enough) to gain more attention at the very beginning.....Yamapi was the leader of all Johnny's Jr. before NewS formed, it's just natural and reasonable he got more attention.....As NewS formed, he helped create more exposure opportunities for other members. KKKity used to be his backdancers, but now they can sing together; Koyama got lots more chance to talk and got much more spotlight than in KKKity; Tegoshi was too new that almost no one know about him at the beginning, it was just impossible for him to get too much spotlight back then, but NewS has provided a shortcut for him to get known by the public much quicker.......It's just a rule that new people get less attention than their senpai......just like when Yamapi first appeared on TV, he didn't get much attention like he is now.......like other NewS members, he also experienced being other senpai's backdancers and got little or no attention.....it's just a process every artist must go through........ But now that process is done, now all 8 members are well-known nationwide, so we see that Yamapi has sort of step down a bit and everyone share the attention more evenly.
I, too, am a big Yamapi fans who like NewS b/c of Yamapi. But as I watch them more, I like them as a group, too. NewS is like a machine, that each member is part of that machine and have different function and they all act together to make the machine works efficiently. Yamapi, Ryo, and Uchi promote and grab public's attention to the team; Koyama speaks and represent NewS; Tegoshi, and Massu help making their songs sound greater; Kusano helps heating up the atmosphere and make good dances; and Shige contributes a lot behind-the-screen by providing great ideas for the concert performance and stuff w/ his smart brain. I like how they work peacefully and joyfully together, and especially love to see them fooling around.
re@ to Notti's english, I agree, I think he's very confident in english too, especially if you watch his "She's All Mine" perf. His pronunciation was very crisp and clear. Ryotan mentioned before that Notti watches a lot of hip hop dance videos, maybe he picked the english from there =P
Uhh... don't think so. He would look so scary if he sounded anything like 50cents... Hip hop... know wha' i mean?(read in Snoopdog way)
oh yes, another btw, i have been watching/listening KKKity's stand up video on youtube. i must say, that Kusano's english is pretty good, judging from the song. In fact, he seems to be pretty comfortable with the language : cool!
What's KKKity's stand up? I want anything with them saying something in english...

NEWS without yamapi? not happening. and yes, P is even more popular then NEWS itself (been asking japanese people back here). I'm one of the people who agrees with Pi being picked as the leader (was he picked? by who? Johnny?). And about that Johnny picks without seeing talent? In the money pov, seems like its true (well, i would do the same thing), but i think you just haven't seen them grow. Johnny is brilliant, though soooo scarry and friieeky that ojisan. Proof? SMAP, arashi, and TOKIO i think is enough... Now now, Yamapi did excellent in NwP and Kurosagi was just a major decreasement. Yamapi really stands out, but ask yourself this, if he wasn't givin so much parts in singing will he still stand out? The fact that he has a voice with such character, he has good appearance (love the eyes, getting bigger and bigger, kowaiiii), and he actually plays doramas pretty well, i think the answer will still be: YES
Before i knew which people are in NEWS (since i started with mp3s), everytime i see the boys other than Pi, Ryo and Kusano, i was like, "Probably some stereotype and so cliche japanese teens that sells their face in cliche school doramas"...

I am judging the NwP itself more likely....It was my first time seeing Yamapi, b4 that I didn't even know there's a JPOP artist called Yamapi......^^;; So I watched NwP solely b/c I thought it's a great drama.....but it turns out the script doesn't fit my taste.......and b/c the story not interest me.....so I didn't care much about the characters/actors either. Then I watched DragonZakura, and the first impression was: Yuusuke and Akira are the same person?? Yamapi looks completely different in these two drama! That's how I start getting interested in him.....(And yes, Abe is GREAT in DragonZakura!!)

I seem to be in the vast minority here, being a NEWS fan first. Cuz my friend burned me their album before I even knew who they were. And when she got the Seishun Amigo album, I didn't know who was Kame and who was Yamapi at first. *dies*
I think that, the way NEWS is now, they could survive without Yamapi, but they wouldn't be as successful. It goes without saying that Yamapi is major popular at the moment, one of the biggest in all of JE right now. I mean, he's everywhere. But I think NEWS is pretty well-loved as a group, plus the individual members have still been busy during the suspension. I mean, Tesshi got a solo on MS. That says something. So I mean, if Yamapi wasn't in NEWS it would be a serious blow, of course, and they'd lose the fans who are only fans cuz of Yamapi, but they would still live on. Although Yamapi obviously doesn't need NEWS to be popular.
I would have to say that there are times where Johnny picks people for talents other than singing. I mean, look at SMAP. As well-loved as Nakai is, it's a well-known fact that he can't sing. And IMO, MatsuJun really isn't that great of a singer. He's so nasal. (I say this being a huge Jun fan myself.) So looks are obviously important (although seriously, some of the boys in KJ8 are ugly, IMO, sorry KJ8 fans!), but even more so, as some people have pointed out, are things like personality and charisma. In an organization like JE, where singing is only a part of what they do, they have to be likeable as a whole. I think this is part of why Yamapi is so popular. He's obviously extremely good-looking (I am so biased here ), he sings very well (not as good as Tesshi though!), he's a good actor, charismatic, and fun. (Although it seems like in recent years he tries too hard to be all kakkoi on variety shows and stuff. Like he's super polite, tries not to laugh too hard, etc. Come on, Pi-chan, we know you're baka and we love it. Let it show!) But NEWS fans have seen more and more of the charm in all of the members that now even some of those that started out only liking them for Yamapi have probably grown to like other members too. Like me. For a long time, I only knew and loved Yamapi. Back then, if NEWS had broken up and Yamapi had gone solo, I honestly wouldn't have cared. Then I watched One Liter of Tears, then I knew who Ryo was. Then I started slowly learning all of the members, and now I love every single one of them. Others have probably had similar experiences.
