I still don't understand why it's politically incorrect to say "Merry Christmas". Grumble

I mean, "Happy Holidays" sounds like a celebration. But what's being celebrated? Winter (yay!). And if so, why isn't there a Happy Holiday for every season? Head Scratch

Concerts, commericials, Christmas events, Christmas songs, etc. are supposed to be called Holiday/Season things. Like Season Greetings, or Holiday concerts, instead of Christmas concert.

Wynter's Rant:
I understand there are other holidays around the Christmas holiday, such as Eid, Diwali (sp?), and Hanukkah, and where I live (in Ontario), we "celebrate" them all. I mean, we wish people greetings on all these holidays. It's all about equality. Which is grand. What I DON'T think is grand is that, in order to play up the other celebrations, they are downsizing the Christian Holiday. I mean, I was listening on the radio the other day about how some stations are not allowed to wish the audience a Merry Christmas (they have to say "Happy Holiday" instead) but that they can wish people a happy Diwali or a Happy Hanukkah. This makes no sense. I mean, granted, Christmas has been so warped by commercialism the actual purpose of Christmas has been lost. However, Christians still know what Christmas is about, and I think, in order to be TRULY equal, we shouldn't ignore what Chrismtas is.
End Wynter's Rant.

I apologize for dumping. I'm just peeved today. Sweat Bow

who said its politically incorrect??

well i think for now cuz its early, i prefer "happy holidays" bec. after xmas, theres still new year to celebrate and you cant just say 'merry xmas' to new year.. its also for the rest of the winter break, nah mean? plus you gotta count the people who arent catholics/christians.. i know i have a pagan, atheist, buddhist friends..etc. who says "happy holidays" at school

Yup, I know what you're saying. And it does make sense at this time, since it's still too soon for Christmas.

I guess this depends on the individual. I mean, I have no problem wishing Muslims a Happy Eid or Jewish people a Happy Hanukkah. And I know lots of people who aren't Christians who wish me a Merry Christmas. I mean, in the end it's a group of people celebrating something, and even if I'm not celebrating what they are, wishing them isn't offensive for me.
