My favourites are now Death Note and Shiawasse Cook (it's a hard-yaoi). But Yakitate Japan! is a great manga too, I love it too, although I only read the first 3 chapters yet. Bonk

It is very important what manga they chose as the first one.
There are tons of tons of mangas about cooking.

In my few knowledge, l was the first cooking manga.( about 30 years ago )
Yakitate Japan is mainly about cooking itselfs, I mean the behaviour of person in that manga is restricted mainly in cooking.
Manga like that is called (ryouri-manga/ cooking manga ) and one of the category of manga world.
Honestly speaking, I was the reader of l. Then for me, when I decide that it is worth reading or not, it is very important that what kind of thing that manga add and do on the historical pile.

But you need not start from origin... hehe
Yakitate Japan is so so for me, and no surprise. But If you now have the interest in this category and you have no experience, it is not worse to start from Yakitate Japan. Maybe you can enjoy it.

If you like party and making some foods with/for your firends, this category increase the pleasure. hehe

Sorry, poor my English.

And you say Yaoi, The meaning of origin of Yaoi is very different from your image and I guess original meaning of yaoi is very important. Someday I must write about it.

At last, I respect the person who think anime is different from manga.

I skimmed through this topic, and nobody has mentioned Maison Ikkoku yet! It's the mother of all romance mangas (next to KOR, that's also a classic) and it's one of the best mangas I have ever read. Everyone should read Maison Ikkoku for a complete life, haha.

Since this is a jdrama site, I'll recommend another romance manga. I"s is really, really good.

Yay, another Maison Ikkoku fan!! I love the manga too, it's also one of my favs. Let just say I didn't like Ranma 1/2 or Inuyasha all that much, but I kept on hearing a lot about Maison Ikkoku and how good a romance it was. So one day, I downloaded a scanlated 1st volume and liked it a lot. The whole scenario was sort of crazy, but I liked the two main characters enough to keep on reading (the drunk trio pissed me off soooo much though -_____-.) I finished the whole 15 volumes pretty quickly and liked it so much I went out and purchased the whole 15 books from an online store, it's well worth it imo. One of the best romance mangas I have read Smile.

I heard a live action drama is coming out, can't wait to check it out, but at the same time, I'm quite anxious.

Is anyone here reading the manga Godchild. It is by Kaori Yuki (also did Angel Sanctuary) and I hear that it is about to become an anime series. I so hope so. I love this manga so much and Cain is soooo awsome.

Here is a wiki link in case anyone is interested in learning about Godchild.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godchild

There is also a prequel to Godchild called the Cain Saga. While it is about Cain it really does not tie in too much with Godchild

Hey Scrapped, are any of those scary? I'm a fan of horror manga, see. Big Grin

Any fans of Junji Ito here? (That's his Tomie in my avatar).
I've got the 3 Museum Of Terror books - which I love - but getting any others in England is darn hard (maybe Scrapped can vouch for that).

I scared myself a few times by reading about Tomie late at night. hehe

The other two are Shojo Beats so NOT scary ha ha ^___^

Yes it's hard gettin Manga in England (From shops anyway) which is why I buy from Amazon and UP1 and Discountanimedvd ... though there are a couple of big manga shops in Birmingham which are heavenly!!!! They have a tonne of manga, shelfs full of the stuff!!! Have you been to them Keps??? (neither are too far from the Bull Ring)

Ooh, I don't think I could watch that film. I've seen a trailer on YouTube, and it looks too scary for me! Sweat hehe
The Tomie stories are excellent.

Look at this review of Ghost Hunt from Amazon - sample quote:
Those in search of real chills should look elsewhere. (!)

Aiiii! Where are these shops in Birmingham? Is one Forbidden Planet? (I've not been there). My interest is well and truly piqued!

Is Shoujo like girly manga? (sorry if I'm mistaken - I'm new to the delights of manga). Sweat

Well, I did get creeped out by some of the Tomie stories. Mr Green
I'm on Battle Royale now, and that's quite harrowing. Only on volume 2, so there's tons more.

LMAO ^^; well I really enjoy Ghost Hunt! It's not scary, scary (but then to me now anime/manga is... as I said though that one arc in the anime had me checking over my shoulder... it's real good to watch in the dark XD)

YES YOU MUST MANGA SHOP IN BIRMINGHAM!!!
There is Forbidden Planet and... Infinity and Beyond? (I think) though they do sell manga in borders too.

The one shop is down the road from the train station... the other is (how to put this) through the market (past that really cool Oasis - alternate clothes shop/centre) anyway go straight through the market and it's directly across the road... Both shops have shelves and shelves of manga. The one from the train station has a whole floor upstairs, the other has a whole back wall!!! Go and enjoy!!! I always end up coming home with about 20 mangas ^_^ they're imported from America too so they're up to date!!!

And yes Shojo is girly manga... I like a good romance SOP IS MY THING!!! XDD Now I'm debating whether to buy La Corda D'oro 4 now or wait... I know what happens cos I have seen the manga PLUS I am slowly going poor thanks to my cosplay for amecon in August lol!
...But I really do want it... I'll check my balance tomorrow at work and decide then wah!

I haven't read the Battle Royale manga, I enjoyed the movies enough (As I said manga wise I am more of a shojo gal... makin up for the lake of bishounen in my life Beaten )

Lol Scrapped, somehow I think I'm not gonna be a shojo fan. hehe

Oh Forbidden Planet - I wondered about going there, but when I looked at their website, I wasn't sure how much manga they would have. Thanks for the info. Victory! Peace!
I'm going to have to try to go there.

Oh, if one of the other shops you mentioned has a floor of manga upstairs, I doubt I'll be able to get up there, unless there's lift or slope (cos I use a wheelchair). Sweat

Cheers for the info on the shops in Brum though, cos I didn't know about them before. Bow

What's Amecon?

Oh, I didn't know there was more than one Battle Royale film (sorry for my ignorance - gulp!).
I definitely wanna check them out when I've read more of the manga.

LMAO ok steer clear of the shojo then stick to your horror ^_~

Yes Forbidden Planet used to keep all the manga downstairs but last time I went they'd put it all upstairs and made a floor for it... that was a couple of months back now (haven't been in a while *sniffs* I used to go regularly*
The other shop on the other side of the market, that's downstairs so you should beok there!

And you're welcome for the info anything to help a fellow fan :-D

Amecon? It's an anime convention. It takes place at Leicester University (I go to a convention every year usually Ame or Aya. It's 3 days August 10th-12th you buy tickets online. Anyway they have a dealers room with LOTS AND LOTS of official stalls that sell manga, anime, figures, merchandise, they have rooms where voice actors come and do signings, room for drawings, rooms for games not in the UK (and DDR mwha ha) and they have cosplay competitions and balls and discos and AMV contests and auctions and omakes and loligoth picnics and dances (VK/JPop/JRock) and and *explodes* it's the highlight of my year cos I'm that sad ^____^ but I shall be dressing as Luke Fon Fabre Friday and Natalia Lanvaldear Saturday (both from Tales of the Abyss)

There are two Battle Royale movies, I remember watching the first one for the first time, it was very exciting... LOL it's a good film, the second isn't as good but it's still fun, worth a watch.

Phew! I can talk for England!!! *Skulks off*

I discovered a new series this weekend Dancing

Kurosagi Shitai Takuhaibin
ItLs not the manga on which the Yamapi vehicle was based but itLs about 5 students with special powers: one of them can speak with dead people, one is an embalmer, one has the ability to discover hidden corpses, one speaks to aliens and one is a well-connected hacker and researcher. Together they open a "corpse delivery service" - they help the deceased Dead and get somehow paid in exchange ...
So far only 5 volumes have been published but I hope itLs going to continue Thumbsup

Scrapped - hey, I like reading your posts, so talk away! Dancing
Thanks again for educating me, lol. Mr Green
Amecon sounds like tons of fun (I don't know the characters you mention though - eek!).
Will you be posting pictures of it? *hopes*

Hmm, so according to you and Aisya_chan, the second Battle Royale film is not as good as the first. Sweat

EstherM - oh, Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service? I've got book 1, but to be honest, I haven't finished it yet (and I started it a while ago). The artwork is fab, but I found the stories too slow-moving for my liking. Sweat
