Hirari was the first drama I ever saw( Early '90's), and got me into japanese dorama.
Is there any info on this, I didn't see it listed here?
Thanks,

I'm very new to viewing JDrama's. I watch quite a bit of North American television (I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia) - and I spend a lot of time on the bus, so I load several shows on my PSP and get to watch a variety of programming. I also have a view favorite British shows.
By accident, I stumbled across Densha Otoko on another torrent site and downloaded it on a whim. While it was not always my exact cup of tea (the constant exuberant displays of emotion were a bit much for me at times), I found myself cheering for the characters too, and ended up enjoying it mostly overall. Certainly enough to give other JDrama's a shot.
I grabbed GTO since that seemed to be highly recommended, but I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations withing a specific genre or style of story telling.
I like Drama's that tell a story over the course of a season (like Densha Otoko), but I would prefer something with a bit more mystery or action to it. A lot of JDrama's seem to be centered around romantic story lines, but I'm wondering if there is anything more along the lines of something like "The Wire" or "Lost" or "Rescue Me". Something like Battle Royale, for example, which is quite dark, but also has a strong story. In other words, I'm not lookingforsomething which is primarily a romantic comedy. Or primarily a love story.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance (and apologies if there are already recommendations along these lines already in this thread - I didn't read the entire post)

Well, I just recently joint this forum too but I've became quite fond of J-Dorama, for starter you like H2 right? then how about watching Ns' Aoi because Satomi Ishihara also played there, or maybe if you like some friendship drama watch Nobuta wo Produce or HYD, and if you like some yakuza become teacher or student watch Gokusen, GTO or My Boss My Hero. and if you like some much more mature and complex love relationship and also funny watch PRIDE, because the best Japanese actor, Kimura Takuya, played there _________________

i would highly recommend Dr. Koto. I haven't finished watching the 2006 but i have watched the 2003. At first i was like knowing the main role and all the supporting casts, but it turned out that i finished this drama in one night. The last time i was so touched and cried that hard when i watched Boku to Kanojo to Kanojo no Ikiru Michi. The story is soo good and really touching. I grew fond of Dr. Koto on the second episode. Can't wait to watch the 2006.

Hi all, I'm a lurker of this site and have been watching JDrama for a little under a year now. I've started to run thin on shows to grab my attention, so I thought I'd ask for some assistance on finding something new.
I'm a sucker for romantic comedies, and am looking for some more. I've watched such shows as Densha Otoko, Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, Kimi Wa Petto, and Hana Yori Dango (watching the second season as we speak, major nice stuff). I've currently started Last Christmas on recommendation to others, and I know I'm going to like it.
For my tastes in shows outside of romantic comedies, I've thoroughly enjoyed the series' of GTO, Gokusen 1 & 2 (1 was better), and My Boss My Hero. I basically want to find a show with a great storyline with a good development of characters and light comedy in between some tear jerker moments (nothing too depressing though, I'm hesitant to watch 1LoT because of that very reason as it sounds).
Thanks for any help you guys can provide, and I'll be sure to be more vocal then viewer around here in the future!
