Well I haven't had that problem but I've read things about it
check out this thread: http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1645039&highlight=overscan#1645039

I guess I'm gonna be running into that problem sooner or later since I'm using ConvertXtoDVD now.. and I agree.. it is much easier and really good quality too. I've only tried putting 4 episodes on one disc.

Thanks for the link.. I'm trying to read through it now..
it's all so confusing to me though.. Rolling eyes

I need to find a help thread that explains all the terms etc for converting and files..
I'd also like to find a program that converts rmvb files to dvd..
but from what I hear it's really hard and there are usually problems.. Oh Crap

But I'm not giving up.. I will get this all figured out.............. I hope

Back to the original question:

I had downloaded HYD 2 (hardsubbed) after converting with convertxtodvd I realized some of the subtitles are close to the left and right sides or go off the screen.. I'm sure there are other programs that you can go in and adjust to fix size for the hardsubs..

If the drama is already hardsubbed, you can't make any adjustments to the subtitles, since they're now part of the video image.

but do you know (since using the program) can you go in and adjust so the subs don't go off the screen? I've done it with soft subs and even picked colors that you can actually read the subs.

The softsubs, being a completely separate file, gives you the flexibility to make all the various adjustments before hardsubbing so that you don't have this problem.

Having to redo the hardsub using the raws and softsub files isn't really that difficult and something I prefer for my own viewing: I can change the font and size to the preferred Arial, change the text color to yellow, increase the black text outline so that the subtitles clearly stand out on the screen, and control how close to the edges the subtitles can be... Smile

It's a little daunting at the beginning, but once you get used to the routine, it's quite easy.

I've only used winavi for rmvb to dvd. I guess i'm stuck with that unless someting better is out there.

As beem said, it may just be better to re-download the raws and softsubs and re-do it yourself. If you're using ConvertXtoDVD, you'll know that adding subs is very easy Smile

Anyone heard of "Super"? I found it about a month ago and have used it with excellent results. It converts anything to anything. You just fill in the specs of the result file. I've been converting AVI to MPEG in comparatively no time at all. But it does so many conversions you have to see it to believe it. And best of all it's completely free: w00t! w00t! w00t!

I think there's a way to get ConvertxtoDVD to take RMVB files.. I got TMPGEnc to work with it before..
I used to deal with a lot of RMVB files because of c-dramas and I found this great tutorial.. REALLY EASY.. and QUICK (not even a minute) to turn your RMVB files to AVS files which I'm pretty sure ConvertxtoDVD can take.
here:http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=289872

you can also turn that AVS file to AVI, but it would take longer.

Hey A-Dad, something just popped into my head: that AVI that you were trying to hardsub and was having sync problems... Did you have both the video AND audio in Full Processing Mode?

I was hardsubbing episode 11 of Nodame Cantabile and VirtualDub noted that the audio was in VBR (variable bit rate) mode and this might cause sync problems: sure enough, after the hardsub, the audio was out of sync.

Then I switched the audio to Full Processing Mode and re-ran the job: the sync problem was gone... Thumbsup

Something to look into, ne?

I wish I could remember...... I think it was the Shinobi movie I was having problems with. It's a while ago now..... Anyhow, it's something to keep in mind for next time. Thanks anyway Smile
I tend to not hardsub now anyhow.

Nope, it's just easier using ConvertXtoDVD to add a subtitle channel. The converting & burning is done in one go, and the results are nearly always perfect.

Thank you all for the info and input on things.. I'm sorry I haven't been back on the forum the last day or so.. I've been fighting with HP to replace my dvd drive which won't even acknowledge there is a dvd in the drive.. the dumb jerks after almost 2 hours on the phone didn't solve the problem or even offer to send me a new drive.. But the guy I got in their tech support knew nothing he was telling me and ended up causing me to lose all my information on my laptop. Angry

Now they are telling me if they decide to replace the dvd drive.. it will be over a month till they even send it.. this is not acceptable.. the laptop isn't even 2 months old..

But thank you all for the little tips etc.. once I get calmed down again from the stress of this laptop mess I'll try a few things and see what I can come up with. I did start to download the one series raw with srt subs and just redo it.. but there is only a few episodes available.. I hope they offer all of the series that way..

Just found another terrific utility. If you don't have it you need it.
It will check every codec on your computer and tell you their locations and if they are broken; it's a freebee:

Have any of you guys used this: eright SUPER

http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

Just got done watching an HDTV video that was converted to MPEG-2 vobs and burned to disc and watched on the television with this free tool. It looks pretty versatile.

The conversion is excellent.

But a friend at work says it looks malicious. This guy is very smart and savvy with computers. He says that first off the GPL license agreement is not being adhered to. And worst off there's no info about the company or the motives. It might be a Trojan and once installing you become part of their "bot network". Furthermore he says that there's no new technology, it's just a GUI around a bunch of free tools. He did say that it's cool and saves months of work.

Hmmmm.... would've been cool to give the thread a cursory glance over. Sorry about that.

Here's one thing though... every time you use it, it connects back to a central server. Strange firewall activity going on with SUPER.

That's very suspicious. What happens if you block it with your firewall?

Actually, I haven't installed it. The DVD made from it was downloaded. Converting HDTV .ts to .vob's looked sweet. And it works really good. The activity reported came from the forum.

Hmmm. Rather strange, indeed. I've been using ConvertXtoDVD as above, with no problems at all Wink
