�ꐶ,�ꈤ is one way which has a nice symmetry, if you make it more literal you get an extra kanji on the left which unbalances the look of it a little. I suggest you immediately get a tattoo of this - post a photo when it's done.

yeah thanks you know i was thinking somthing a little diff but you can word things different cant you it dosnthave to be the same i guess :p what dose the dou in "gakkou wa dou" mean any way ? and why is ther not a "ka" at the end because its a question?

dou means "how". the "is" is implied. But you could include it, and ka, to make it all explicit:

Gakkou wa dou desu ka?

I guess that's a little more formal way of saying "how is school".

(But I never took any nihongo classes, so I hope I'm not lying.)

Informally speaking you can drop the ka question marker if there is a question word in the sentance or a rise in tone on the last word, just like in English we establish questions by the tone of the sentance. Since the sentance is informal you can translate it as "How's school?" or "What's up with school?"

Honestly, if you want to learn a bit of Japanese you should at least learn Kana. That way you can get a dictionary that translates into Hiragana and Katakana and be able to read it.

�H�H That wasn't a dis, it was actually an honest suggestion. Because a lot of the good dictionaries I've seen will break Japanese only down as far as kana, not romaji. I'm talking about entering into a dictionary an English word and getting the output in hiragana..like that. At least he would be able to read it.

I think that urlz and aho are right, atsu. At the very least it is probably best to at least learn the kana if you are studying it. There are many Japanese-English electronic dictionaries out there. A few a actually made for english speakers and use romanji but I think that they are limited at best. Unfortunately most of the good one's out there are made for Japanese speakers who are learning english and not the other way around. You are probably better off to do I little research and get a well equipped one made for native speakers. Although it would take some getting used to if you are new to the language. If you want a one that uses romanji and kana that is designed for english speakers I would recommend the seiko rm2000. It is a little limited but basic and easy to use. If you wanted a well eqipped one that native speakers use I recommend Canon ex-words. They make a pretty decent electronic dictionary. www.jlist.com This website is a decent on-line import store. Under study aids they sell a few of this electric dictionaries. Although they are a bit pricy.

romaji is dirty, personally. I hate seeing it, but I usually type it in for beginners, as well as he might not have Japanese support installed on his machine.

Yup, I agree. But if people want to type romaji and don't have a Japanese input editor, by all means go for it. I know it's hard to learn or continue to study Japanese if you have no means of sharing your conversation but as much as people do dislike seeing romaji, feel free to communicate that way.
