To quickly summarize it.
Sadism is the sexual or social pleasure or gratification in the infliction of pain and suffering upon another person.
Masochism, the sexual pleasure or gratification of having pain or suffering inflicted upon the self.
Hence the S & M, also known as sadomasochism is when these things are taken into a sexual fetish sort of a thing.
Note: I have never even read, been to, seen anything related to sadomasochism but simply learned it in college since it's part of psychology and pre-med studies related to endorphins and pleasure receptor/hormones. The words themself have no sexual meaning, just definitions. Society is the one who have turned them into a sexual thing. _________________

Also trust me, if one wanted to talk about just S&M I could write easily 2-3 pages by myself (and thats just endorphins association) without even touching the fetish stuff, or psychological factors.
