Yeah. Both Uchi & Ryo are in both groups. Again:
Kanjani8 - officially formed in December 2002
NEWS - first formed to support volleyball in Nov/Dec 2003
Here's something about NEWS' story and how Uchi and Ryo got to be in both groups:
actually you have it backwards, Uchi and Ryo started out in Kansai and as Kanjani 8 (Uchi was actually in V West first) - But anyway, they started as Kanjani 8 and were a well established group, with their own songs and own TV show (no they were not debuted, but heck - Kattun weren't debuted for years and they were still a "group" - Kanjani was the same way)
They were put into News, simply because at the time News was meant to be a temporary group. They were put together to cheer on the Volleyball much like the recent KityGYM. They debuted only because their volleyball song was made into a CD...so it was a "debut". By the way, one thing a lot of people don't know is that in the beginning Ryo was not a full member of News - he was only there when they played volleyball games in the West (Kansai area) and South and the other member of News (Takahiro Moriuchi) - was there when they played the East/North areas.
It was only after Moriuchi dropped out - and NewS really became too popular all of a sudden that it was decided they would not be "temporary" but an actual full on group, that Ryo was made a full time member (Uchi was always a full time member).
But that is how they ended up in two groups...they are originally K8 and "on loan" to NewS - which happened to debut before K8 simply because of the release of the volleyball song and sudden popularity of national attention.

When was this drama shown? I just downloaded it.. haha but my bittorrent client doesn't seem to be working ever since I got connected to my home internet today. Heehee, I just got home today and I am already back checking on K8 stuff. Teehee! Though I am so tired after such a long flight and many hours of waiting too.

You mean Double? It's shown December last year, together with the Dive ot the Future and Kemarishi as part of the K8 Winter Break Special _________________
