Hello Minna-san
Lately, ILve been coming quite often to this enjoyable site and last night it hit me!
I am the only one here on the JDorama forum who hasnLt watched a single drama starring the godfather of all dramas, Kimura.
Kimura as an actor never appealed to me, but who am I to judge without even giving one of his shows a try! Therefore, since there are soo many to chose from, could you lovely people recommend me one Kimura-drama that is on the funnier side of life???
Kimura always have those cool roles - he just doesn't do 'funny'. However for a nice romantic drama I suggest Pride.
I am a fan of Kimura! Yeah he doesnt do funny roles but he's good as an actor. As for his drama, I definitely recommend Engine and Pride. Those two have a bit funny moments in it. Erm..Beautiful Life is good too though its not funny at all.

hmm from the dramas you seem to rate highly in your profile I think you might actually enjoy Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi more than Pride or Engine. It's pretty much the opposite of "funny" but it's probably Kimura's best performance ever and has a great storyline.

my boss my hero (it's a v nice school/comedy drama. u wun regret watching it)
I TOTALLY AGREE!!! Every single drama you mentioned there, is in my favorite list, and in fact on the top of the list.
I just finished watching My Boss My Hero and wooooooooow, what a great drama. I can't remember exactly which 2 of ya from the forum recommended Nodame Cantabile and My Boss My Hero, but I can't thank you enough guys. Two great dramas which are for sure in the top of my fav-list.
I'm eating through these dramas quick though, and now back to the lack of them as I wait for new episodes of Proposal Daisakusen and Liar Game.
Note: To the person who recommended gal circle/galcir. Ehhh, after episode 5 I just had to stop watching. Yes, I agree lots of cuties, but god, the story just got so damn boring, stereotypical, and just "stupid." However, thanks for taking the time to recommend me something. Not everyone has similar taste (after all you liked densha otoko and I didn't either, so we just have different tastes and genres)
tasmaniandevil you seem to have identical taste to the dramas I like (the ones you mentioned abobe are pin-point exactly what I like). Could you be kind enough as to post here or send me a PM with a suggestion for a drama?
Thanks a million _________________

Kimutaku is not bad. I think the only problem is that he sorta has one acting style. His acting can basically be characterized as serious and a bit brash. That's sort of his 'base'. While that makes him unique and is part of the reason why people love watching him, it also limits his acting range. Of course most of his roles require him to be that way. Or you could also say that those roles suit him the best. Hopefully he does a drama that requires him to be totally out of his usual element.

I agree with you. I don't know why he's so popular since he's just playing the same type of character in almost all the dramas that I've seen him in. Like you, I wish Kimutaku would try for roles that don't pigeon-hole him into a certain character. _________________
I think some of the reasons why people love watching Kimutaku are exactly those things that people are attracted to in real life. When Kimutaku acts, he exudes a sort of confidence, rebelliousness, mystery, unpredictability, and, especially to the ladies, sexiness and coolness. He never comes off as being a "nice guy", a goof, a klutz, a follower, happy go lucky, insecure or helpless. And because of that, we've rarely seen him in roles that require him to be those things.
I'd like to recommend a dorama I watched about a month ago: Otona no Otoko (Three Grown Men) from 1997. I'm recommending it more for the acting than the storyline. It's about three 39-year-old salarymen who are bachelors, friends, and co-workers, and the pressures put on them to get married. While the template for each episode tends to be too repetitive imo, the performances are of a high quality. The three bachelors are portrayed by two pretty good supporting actors (Yasunori Danta, Masahiko Nishimura) and one great leading actor (Koji Yakusho). Yakusho had already established himself as a major film star when he made this series, so it's nice to see him in a medium where there is a paucity of leading men who are also good actors. In addition, the cast includes one of the best character actors around--Takehiko Ono--who plays the boss; Kimiko Yo in a sexy multi-dimensional role as a lusty doctor; and Maiko Kikuchi, who is wonderfully funny as a naive, sheltered poor little rich girl with a passion for roller coasters. While it's not a superior romantic comedy like Kekkon Dekinai Otoko and Rennai Kekkon no Hosoku are, it does contain a number of very entertaining and skillful performances.

Hi, I'm currently new to J-drama with my first being Densha Otoko, which has become my favorite drama of all time.
So I was wondering if there are any other j-dramas out there that combine comedy with romance and is still a really good show to watch. I'm here because I'd rather not waste my time looking through billions of dramas and waste time...

@Nibelheim - I hava friend like you who really loved Densha Otoko so on that basis I'd maybe suggest My Boss My Hero, it's hillarious and a really good dorama and has a tad of romance in it (though it's nothing like the romance in Densha Otoko)
Or Nodame Cantabile that's one of my personal faves!!! _________________

My Boss my hero and nodame is surely good,
my boss my hero has lots of comedy but yet still serve a heart whealming story.
I add Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, the main character is a bit similar with Densha Otoko's, a kind of Otaku but not that kind of anime otaku. it also has a romance part, and I think the romance part was portrayed in a funny way.
very recommanded!! my fav.

Is that the drama where one of the ladies refers to the dumb oaf as a "rhino"? If so, it's a pretty hilarious drama and I recommend it too. The only bad thing is it's hard to find. _________________
