Singaporeans are attracted to a drama due to the good-looking casts. Seriously.
I mean just look at how Hana Kimi (Taiwanese version) fare and you'll know. Wu Zun is not exactly a good actor and the rest of the casts did nothing to make the drama nice but it got a high viewership simply because... there's many good looking guys in it.
The plot, acting, etc does not matter to them. Just give them something to drool on for hours and they will be satisfied. _________________ Gyaboo!

Agreed. like i said before..either the leads either male or female are not attractive..or the plot itself is weak..or they cant catch the meaning behind the story...like too much japanese influenced plot or lines... :/
My boss my hero is also nonsensical.. =P but i loved it so much! XD anyways, i don't know why jia you jin shun is on the primetime show..maybe the plot caught the auntie's pity?
If no Wu Zun the TW Hanakimi wont be so popular..especially with Ella.. ><;;
and..with no TW F4 there wont be part 2 HYD but then still HYD2 still flopped. =P

Downloading stuff can be slow and tiring cause not much applications allow you to download the entire dramas for free...then BitTorrent and BitComet are just plain slow, especially if you are downloading dramas that are not really well known...imagine getting 1KB every second for 300MB of video...and that's only one episode!!!
As for buying dramas...only buy them if you are a fan of someone acting in the drama. If not you can turn to Crunchyroll or Youtube or Yeoh or any video sharing website to watch them.
Renting to me is not recommended. It's like gaming LAN shops. You pay pay pay to use a particular thing in a pay-per-use basis when the best thing is to play a whole lot to use that thing permenently for free. _________________ Love conquers hatred just as water subdues fire!!!But some try to extinguish a bonfire with just a cup of water, which obviously is not enough. So instead of saying one can't love, one should try harder to love.

Well, I personally still prefer getting my doramas from the internet because of better video quality and subtitles. The speed may be a little inconsistent at times but if you've done your port-forwarding, you're still able to get relatively decent speeds, especially in the early mornings (from 4am onwards).
Renting is my second choice if I run of disk space or if I wanna watch some older doramas/movies. It also helps that the rental store is pretty near to my house.
My last resort is probably buying those bootleg doramas from video stores. I've dropped by Poh Kim recently and it seems that there's quite a huge selection of doramas available now. The packaging is pretty good, though I'm still rather skeptical about the video quality even though they're supposedly DVDs. But overall, the price is quite hefty (around $29.90) considering that they're bootlegs afterall.
Any comments from those who've bought and watched them? How's the video quality and subtitles?

hmm i've watched a couple of bought dvds from poh kim. Quality's quite good and subtitles too, but i think i prefer fansubs more since they'll explain some terms unique to the japanese culture and overall sounds less formal.
speaking of which, yeah i realized too that poh kim increased it's collection of japanese dramas! They even have a section set aside purely for jdramas now. Just went yesterday and it seems like they imported some of the popular older dramas like strawberry on the shortcake and antique.
ah. that part abt singaporeans watching dramas just for eye-candy is oh so true. i cringe whenever wuzun speaks. It sounded even deader than reading straight from the script. but he's a good eyecandy alright.

exactly . i'm one of 'em . though wu zun's face piss me off [ i'm a girl ] . 'cos he seriously looks prettier than me . only those girls without a sense of 'something-is-wrong' would like him . he's one of the few faces that i think is strikingly like a girl ... massu [ name in short , he's from NEWS , a j-pop group ] is another one [ though he's SO MUCH BETTER , at least he CAN SING . ] . massu can be compared to any of those girls from hello! project . duhh . drooling over a hot guy can relieve stress . i'll just look at yamapi's face on my handphone the first thing in the morning . perks me up .

the jia you jn shun won awards , you know . best family show or something - it's just popular in korea . my mum catches it everyday ; she's watching it now . say it's getting to the climax , getting more and more exciting . no wu zun , no show . no wu zun on magazine cover or articles on him , no need sell . i'm expecting to see his face whenever i buy U-Weekly .

Yes yes I noticed too! I went to disc station in Bugis and then I saw the Japanese Drama section. I was so tempted to buy so many drama. I see Orange Days, H2, Nodame, Nobuta, 1LoT, Haken no Hikaku(wow last season jdrama already here) etc etc and in the end, I only bought Nodame Cantabile because there's only 1 piece of it left and also because I love the drama soooo much, I intend to buy it and lend it to my friends. Share the joy!
I watched the first DVD. It was acceptable (well, from my small 20in TV in my room, the quality is not bad.) There are subtitles in English, Chinese Traditional and Chinese Simplified. I watch it with chinese traditional sub and to me it seems quite nicely subbed. _________________

I hate it when there are Malay subtitles and I think this applies to the VCDs.
