They don't make 'em like that anymore, unfortunately.
A damn good piece of entertainment. Compelling storyline, great fight scenes, wonderful characters including some of the best villains you'll find anywhere.
Much like GTO is the best of the high school genre, Double Kitchen is the best of the mother-in-law vs. daughter-in-law genre. Everything else is an imitation, IMHO.
Tomoko Yamaguchi and Yoko Nogiwa going head to head--dorama's version of Ali vs. Frazier.
Honke no Yome was also a pretty good example of this genre: the legendary Shima Iwashita at her intimidating best against a resilient trilingual Vivian Hsu.

I got up to the middle of episode 2 of Koukou Kyoshi 1993 and found out that my copy had major glitches. Unfortunately, it's just sensitive with my DVD player because it works in the one at my grandma's house (except for a couple episodes). (Maybe I should've posted this in another thread.)
I guess I'll watch Jyoou no Kyoushitsu instead. _________________

I'm about half way through Chonan no Yome 2 and I have to say, I'm enjoying the living beejeezus out of it...
but probably for all the wrong reasons.
Let's see... first off you have the star, Asano Yuko, huffing, puffing, and pouting her way through her part as if she'd just graduated from the
Fukada Kyoko School of Acting. (Those who've seen both these actresses work can imagine how entertaining that would be.)
Then there's Suzuko Anju playing another Daughter-in-law, as if she were a drunken marionette. She's wobbling and flailing all over the screen, and what makes it even funnier is that her character was supposedly raised in the U.S. -- so they make her speak English in many of her scenes. I can't understand a third of what she's saying when she breaks out into English. And the guy playing her brother, also supposedly from America, is even worse.
Then comes Miki. Nakatani Miki. Sainted Nakatani Miki. Miki my favorite. Miki the love of my life. I'm amazed that one of the older actors didn't shoot her before the end of the series. She is forever mugging for the camera, forever trying to upstage the other actors.
Granted, she was only 18 or 19 when she did this show. But holy moley! She's shameless the way she's puffing and mugging in the background whenever anyone else is speaking. It's like watching a 5 year old in a school play, standing in the chorus, looking out at the audience and smiling and waving, trying to get everyone's attention.
I guess I'm having so much fun with this show because I've seen all of these people in other shows, and I know how good they are, how good they became at their craft.
But I don't think any of them took this show seriously. And they're all just bouncing off the walls.
Watching this show is like watching a final dress rehearsal after the cast had just gone out and gotten roaring drunk at dinner.
It's the kind of performance that's fun to watch if you're already a fan. But I don't think anyone coming in cold would appreciate it. _________________

Sounds like a fun drama and a chance to laugh at all the actors/actresses when they were young. I'm so curious to see how bad they all were especially since a lot of them are popular nowadays. _________________
