It was annoying that the actress and the makers of the series had so little faith in their audience that they had to do the little song and dance to convince the viewers that she was really a nice person. That the actress really wasn't such a terrible witch. It was her attempt to avoid being typecast. It was a cheat.

There is a method to her madness. Like Geezer mentioned earlier, the one thing that bugged me was the whole singing and dancing over the credits at the end of each episode. It's almost like they're saying, "Just wanted to remind you this is fiction, in case you're too stupid to figure that out for yourself" But otherwise, a real good drama.
